What are the signs of a bad/ineffective damper? I have a Romac that was on my 408 and was wondering if I need to look elsewhere for a damper for my new build.

Thanks

if your damper is going bad you can usually tell by the fretting marks it leaves on your crank snout. if the snout is clean & smooth it's ok.

Thanks Rebel, the crank snout looks fine. Just want to make sure I get the right damper for my build.

I figured with all the replies the "balancer" post some guys might weigh in here. Lot's of opinions, I run XXX and don't run YYY but no substance.

But what makes them junk? When I bought it they were supposed to be decent balancers.

I don't think ATI makes a hub set up that will work with stock pulleys. I tried to call them but the tech guy was busy.

Thanks

Romac have a good name down under. if i'm not mistaken, they're an Australian company. i have Romac Floater Hubs on my car, they're good quality, 12 years & no issues. i looked at a Romac damper & thought it was a BHJ damper at first, but i bought ATI myself.

You can buy an ATI with any front bolt pattern you like. Getting a chevy front opens the door to a thousand different drive options at enough of a price difference to almost pay for the damper.

Romac should be fine. There should be several choices that are SFI and fit with stock pullies. BHJ, Pioneer, Trick Flow, etc.

My ATI damper has the stock pulley spacing if I'm not mistaken. Ran the same drive setup I always used to for a while before I switched to electric water pump and all.

I called ATI this AM and spoke to one of their techs, no damper with factory pulley alignment.

I have a Fluidamper on the 440 that was in my cuda before I put the hemi in it. The hemi has an ATI on it. I used the same pulley setup on both motors for a while. I had a moroso underdrive crank pulley and a factory water pump pulley on it.
