Does anyone know if there was an option for rear speakers in the package tray of 70's A-bodies, and if so did they use speakers grilles or just slits/perforations in the package tray trim panel?

I want to add a pair of 6x9 speakers to the package tray of my '70 Dart Swinger and I'd like to keep it as stock looking as possible.

Thank!

There are two 6x9 slots in the panel and you can buy a reproduction package tray with the speaker holes in them, but I don't believe they ever offered dual 6x9 speakers in hardtops. I had a 68 GTS with a fader control and a single 6x9 in the deck, plus a rear defroster in the other 6x9 hole.

The funny thing about science is that if you change one miniscule parameter you change the entire outcome to the way you want it.

But the holes for the second speaker should be predrilled for you. It'll drop right in. Me, what I did was used a pair of period correct steel speaker covers. I don't have a pic, but the average joe would never think they were not stock.

Thanks, I think that is the route I will go.
