If you actually go out and puttt on Woodward you
will watch the water temp.... most guys dont even go
out on Saturday and cruise... they find a spot and
sit or head up towards Pontiac ..less traffic up there..
most of the traffic is from 9 mile to 15 mile.... in the
morning the place is fairly empty.. but not many cars to
check out
EDIT
there will be 1.5 MILLION people out there and
40 to 50 thousands cars... PLUS you get all the
mini vans driving... it is stop and go all the
way from 9 mile to 15 mile
wave

Yeah, like Mike said - Saturday is more a show and shine and a social event than a real cruise. Most of the muscle cars might make an occasional lap, but for the most part there's 9 urban assault tanks for every muscle car. Just like the Telegraph Cruise and the Downriver (Fort St) one - the real fun is usually Thursday and Friday nites. All the black marks on the street early Sat AM is the proof of that! Best way to see the rides is cruising in the daily driver with a co-pilot - taking turns driving and spectating.

This is not anything hot, this is nice.

Try cruising in Vegas traffic for 90 minutes in 110° weather in a triple black 340 challenger with AC running the whole time because that's how long it took us to get back to our hotel/campground,casino. We did it(Cruised when it was 110° or hotter at the end of July 3 times during 2 different trips and the temp gauge never went over 3/4. That was not even the ultimate test, hi altitudes and hi temps was worse than Vegas heat.

We cruised Woodward Weds twice, first time earlier in the afternoon and it was not bad and plenty of people out already on the sides of the road.

Then when we left the doughnut cutter at 7:30-8PM and went north up to E Maple it took 60-90 minutes, constant idle in gear creeping along following a Lamborghini. We could see the heat pouring out the back hood of his car. My 440 6 pack idled fine the whole time in gear and the temp gauge only went to half the whole night and back down to 1/3 when we got moving. Stock cooling system with 7 bladed clutch fan, just replaced the 10 year old water pump with new standard volume pump because the old one started leaking after a radiator flush. Never worry about it no more. Got plenty of pictures just haven't uploaded them yet.

What we did feel and notice was the heat coming up through the floor after like an hour. I have thermal barrier inside my headers to reduce under hood heat which works great, but not the pipes and X pipe. They were putting off a lot of heat because they are so big(3"). We had the windows down because it was nice out, so I turned on the AC for the second half of the cruise, it helped even with the windows opened. The AC does not seem to effect engine temps much if at all, only the idle rpm. But man was there heat coming up through the floor with those big pipes and mufflers.

My buddy stopped by my shop to see how much I got
done.. I asked where he had been with his hot rod
and he said he was out on Woodward.. he made a loop
early(about 8am)... he made 2 more loops later with
his son.. he has his own ride but they ran the 2 loops
in the truck... we downed a couple brews and I got back
to work after he took off.. he was headed home just
around the block... he wants me to get finished up so
we can do the Hinds Drive Cruise next Saturday... I
should be done in a few days... I'd like to take it
out on Tuesday for a local cruise and get some testing
in before the Hinds Cruise
wave
