Ok I've been away from the old cars for 5 years running a 2010 challenger genIII HEMI. Now I'm back. I'm looking at buying a 62 max wed clone. How can I tell what block is in it? They say 413. Its got a cross ram set up. But I know these will go on 440 blocks also. How do I know from inspecting what it is? Be gentle guys like I said I've been with the new gen of HEMI. Thanks

Check the numbers on the pad on the top front of the block.

The block will have a casting number and a casting date, sometimes a little hard to get to, but they pretty much nail down the block casting.

The engine ID pad for a 413 should have a letter code for the year and a number 41 for a 413.

IF one wanted to get ultra-suspicious there are four different displacement RB engines, the RB 383, the 413, the 426 and 440. As the car is advertised as a clone, I cannot see the real likelihood of faking a block, especially as most 413 blocks are hardly saleable (for the same effort and $$$ one can build a 440).

I believe there are a couple of guys more often on the Race Engine page who will be able to give much more detail and will probably be the right ones for the information you seek. Shoot, they might even know the car! I'd suggest PMs to Scott Smith Harms and Cab Burge.

R.

4-bolt valve covers & heads, if I remember correctly, assuming it has MW heads.
Honestly, the Maxies weren't known for good street manners, if that's where you'd be driving it. For that, I'd be happy with a 440 & Stealth heads, reasonable CR & a modern cam profile. Been there.

S41 on the pad for 62...there may be exceptions.

286 last 3 digits of the head #'s

No heat cross over & no horse shoe shape air gap in the head in that area. Used to be one of the quickest ways of telling before the repo's

4 bolt vale cover in 62-63

Rocker shaft hold down stands are aluminum for 62-63. 64's heads (518) had cast in stands like a 440.

Intake #'s not in my head.
