Help me out here guys - I'm thinking about a racer for myself & I've always wanted a purple car, I have access to a 1969 Dodge Dart & I know it could be a viable racer - The man (aka boyfriend) states that he won't help out painting if I use the "incorrect color" & said that he thinks purple was only available in 70 & beyond [on Darts]. Please tell me - when was purple available as a viable color choice on a Dart?

In Stephenville, TX there is (was?) an old man who had a 70-71 Dart that was FC7... most of the original paint was baked off the upper surfaces, but the sides were still purple. I heard that it was a /6 car, too. Plain as white bread toast, but still a factory purple car. FWIW, I always wanted a purple car, too, so I painted my 74 Swinger PC: Go for it, girl, it's not like race cars are "correct" anyway. Make it what you want it to be! Paint it yourself if you have to, I did... Clair

I can see why he wants out, paint prepping is alot of tedious boring work & you dont get to smile till the very end. She should do it all by herself & wow him with how good it turns out.(He'll never live it down).

Okay all - Thanks for all the thoughts & support! I'm so impressed with the Moparts threads! To answer a few of you (if I forget anyone - I'm sorry...) The bf is very supportive (he already knows if I start on this, he will have to finish) He's building a 72 Charger R/T clone right now that will be the first Mopar I ever drive [how cool is that?] I am VERY new to the Mopar scene - so Claire, I bow to you - you ROCK GIRL! I, unfortunatley, at this time, do not have the skills to paint myself - but I am willing to learn & if I ever do that 69 Dart in purple, Moparts will be the first to see her. [Right now she is a shade of green that's just not to my liking - but the B5 blue option sounds like another option for me.] PS I'd love to share pics - but I use Kodak Gallery & am not sure how to resize the pics yet - I'm working on it... Thanks again all!!!!!!!

So he has no problem with all of the other modifications necessary to make it a race car, but won't change to a color he disapproves of?
I knew I'd forget someone - yes, he is cool with making slight modifications to make it a racer (as long as it is close to stock so he can change it back again later)

Paint it purple if you want.
Member ProSport has a super nice 69 Dart that is purple. He's usually in the race section.
Nautilus Racing- We use Superformance gaskets and Turbo Action converters/products.

I believe purple was available in other years also, but only as a special order, a friend has a 1973 dodge van paint code 999, its purple with purple shag carpet throughout!

Here's a pic of Bob's (prosport) car
It's your car, do what ever you please with it. 72 chargers had a Ralley option, No R/T's after 71.
Try THIS for resixing pics. It's free, easy, and works great
