I have a freshly restored 71 Roadrunner with a 383 and a 727. The drivetrain has about 75 miles on it so far. The transmission was rebuilt by a local shop and works fine except it has a pretty noticeable whine in reserve only. Its not horrible but you can hear it as soon as the transmission is shifted into reverse and the whine goes away as soon as the shifter is put into any other postion besides reverse. Does this sound like a potential problem or is this just the nature of the beast? Thanks!

The whine is often caused by a rapidly cycling pressure regulator in the trans. More of a nuisance than a real problem. Factory recommended replacing the valve body.

Could also be a leaking rear servo piston seal.

I rememeber some Dodges doing it that came in the dealer I worked at. I believe on some you could replace the aluminum spool valve with a steel one to help some. But as John said was more a nuisance then anything as it did not cause a real problem. Ron
