The whine is often caused by a rapidly cycling pressure regulator in the trans. More of a nuisance than a real problem. Factory recommended replacing the valve body.
Could also be a leaking rear servo piston seal.

I rememeber some Dodges doing it that came in the dealer I worked at. I believe on some you could replace the aluminum spool valve with a steel one to help some. But as John said was more a nuisance then anything as it did not cause a real problem. Ron
