Guys

I'm having a problem with my crank and water pump pulleys not being aligned. I think that my harmonic balancer is not installed all the way.

Should the end of the crank be flush with the hub of the balancer ?

I think this is the balancer I have.

If you put the final torque on the balancer bolt, it should have seated completely as that is a bit of foot pounds. 140 foot or so IIRC. Stock balancers usually stick out 1/8 inch or less from end of crank snout. Not sure about your summitt unit.

There should be some space between the end of the crank and the balancer. I don't know how much at this time, but from memory I would say about a 1/4''. In fact, I have pulled apart several Mopar engines where the balancer washer was crushed inward from over tightening.

are your pump/alt pulleys aligned and just the crank pulley itself is too far forward? IF the dampener ain't seated then correct that & go from there. if it IS seated then you can move the alt forward & space the pump pulley forward (you can only gain so much tho on the pump as there is only so much nub forward from the "cross" to work with) or you can source a shallower pump pulley (I have some). Speedway mtrs and others has spacers for the pump pulley

Was the combination of pulleys you have ever used successfully before? If the pulley combo is new, I'd suspect a simple mismatch.

Guys

Thanks for the input. I had to take off balancer last year to replace seal, but I did not take a good look at alignment before I removed it frown.

The water pump pulley is the one that does not look like its aligned. The power steering and the alternator look ok.

I will check the balancer and crank tonight. I did torque it to 135 lbs.

Well, the way I see it is that if the balancer wasn`t on all the way on then all the pulleys should not line up. If one lines up and not the other then it must be a mismatch in pulleys or possibly brackets. But since you said the water pump one doesn`t line up then I say the pulley.
