I am lookoing into building a stroker using a 340 engine that I currently have. Can the stock oil pan be used? If not, what pans are people using on these. Reason for the question is that I was told by someone that he thought that the rod hardware hit the pan with the 4 inch crank - but he was not 100% certain.

Can anyoe help me out with this?

Thanks !

i dont know if the stock pan will work. i think so but im not sure. i used the 8qt low profile milodon pan. there are two milodon pans but only one will work. i believe the 7qt pan wont work. use the milodon pan that ends with 35 and not 36

Pan should be no problem but you may have to clearance the block depending on your rod choice. I didn't have to clearance anything with my 4 inch crank and CAT rods. This setup also neutral balanced
with no metal added.

Stock pan will work. I use the Kevko 6 quart M301. Since it has a built in crank scraper and baffles no need for a windage tray. Fits an a-body with TTI headers without issues:

I am running Scat I-beams and block did not have to be clearanced with the 4" stroke.

I agree about the pan. I also used the scat I beam rods and crank with no clearance issues. Then my pan would not fit into the pickup so I still ended up buying a Milodon pan.

I am also forced to use a rear sump pan. Which Milodon did you end up with in your pick up?

Thanks for the replies so far - they have been very helpful.

I am using a stock pan in my 83 cordoba and it works fine with the windage tray as well. I tried to install a nice 318/340 milodon pan and pickup but it was a no go in the J-body....It is just taking up space in my garage..... TBF

Here's some info from the book "How to build big inch Mopar small blocks"
It has to do with windage & using a stock oil pan.
