The '74 Dodge W200 Pickup I bought last November came with two sets of 16.5 inch, 8-lug wheels. Locating new or good used tires is somewhat limited by the odd size.

Thinking I should switch to 16-inch wheels to improve selection and availability.

16 inch wheels are the way to go, plenty of sizes that are still made..

I though they stop making 16.5 tires all together, those rims are flared lip and tires come off too easy.

16.5s are still out there, but your choices are very limited. Find a later model truck (90-93) in the junkyard and get the wheels off it. I say 90-93 becuase I'm sure they came with 16s. I still haven't figured out when the switch from 16.5s to 16s occured, but I know it was before 1990.

Ford wheels were far easier for me to find, so that's what I used. GM 8 lugs will not work.

I had 16.5 on my 85 W350. I went up to the 17" wheels. Lots of nice radial options out there for the newer trucks that are using 17's. If you want aftermarket wheels the sky is the limit for options. But is you are looking for a stock look, i know guys that are using the 16" wheels off the Ford E series van. I believe they are a wider rim. Maybe 7". My dads 90 W250 had a 16x6 wheel from the factory.

Thanks for all the great replies and suggestions.

I currently have 33 x 12.50 x 16.5 tires on the rims that came with the truck.

I am considering 35-inch tires for the future.

New tires may not be in the budget for this truck right now. I may be looking for a good used set if I can find them, though sometimes used are more trouble than they are worth.
