What's the min/max with an 11/32" valve stem, bronze guide in an aluminum head?

Intake 1.4-1.6 thou
Exhaust 1.6-1.8 thou
These are the target numbers I was taught to shoot for.
I've read that some people run them as tight as .8 thou, and as loose as 3.

My guides are worn top and bottom, more so across than end to end head direction, understandability. I just got these heads back from being ported and a new valve job so if the guides have to be replaced they'll need another valve job. It sucks because I told the head guy to do what ever was needed to get them in good shape. I'll call him Monday.

The two guides I measured were .0018 & .0015 in the center, the top .0028 & .0039, the bottom numbers were similar to the tops.

On those uses looser is better than to tight, trust me on that. I would, and do, shoot for .0017 to .0020 on the intakes and .0018 to .0022 on the ehxaust to start with for street and strip aplication on todays pump fuel up On drag race motors on leaded fuel I shoot for tighter, similar to Mike(MrP) suggestion up

I just saw this on a friends heads as well. Heads were ported with the head guy told to do what ever it needed. The motor failed (other issue) after 6 passes. Valve stems are worn over .005". Did that happen in 6 passes? I think not.
