This is how I do it

Mikes pic is a good representation of how to do it. The lower hole around the outer diameter of the filter boss needs tapped to NPT and an appropriate sized NPT to AN fitting installed, that is your oil "out" of the block. Then through the filter ( the outer passage) and the oil goes "out" of the filter through the center passage and into the center passage of the block.
What size NPT do you tap your block to mike? I know the lines should at least be -10

There are a couple of ways to do it. The center bolt is easier but the oil has to take a few extra corners when you go that way.

I have a kit to do this, and was just reading the MP engine book today. The lower pic seems to jive with what they were saying, but mine came with the parts to do the upper one(center hole).
Just wondering what the difference would be...

A kit I have to start producing again

Drill and tap for 3/8 NPT,straight in and out less 90 degree turns.

I believe Andy commented years back about the difficulty of tapping this location for 1/2" NPT, 3/8" being the norm and shown in this thread. Anybody do 1/2", and how did it go?

And, is there any safe way/trick to tap this location, WITHOUT tearing the motor down, to insure no metal shaving go astray?

I did one with a hand drill.. it turned out ok but
it had a small seep all the time... all the rest that
I have done are on the mill... you better decide to do
it prior to the build up... are there ways to do it..

I would like one of those kits, too. Actually it looks pretty easy to make. And the idea of a remote filter makes it easy to change

I had a major blowout while I was under my 360 powered truck and the gasket gave up under the filter mounting plate

And a racer here had one let go in the lights at speed
the car spun off to the left, luckily it stayed upright and did not hit anything solid. It still cost him a set of wheels and tires (bent and flat spotted). Could have been a lot worse.

Wher do you get the centerbolt for #2 pic?

The center bolt is just a fine thread 3/4" bolt, 3/4 X 16tpi.

I do, but I am going through a divorce, so I stopped making them for a while and have no stock. I am just starting to produce stuff again now. Feel free to PM me for more details

Damper bolt will work if you make it a little shorter.

I picked up a 2" fine thread bolt at Fastenal today, it was the shortest they had in stock. About 3/4" would be ideal. I'm also going to use a 3/4" copper crush washer under it.

It is easy to drill and tap that hole if you have the proper fixture and an extra tall Bridgeport.

I don't have a mill so I just drilled mine with a cordless drill, will pick up the tap tomorrow.
