Hello,

I just installed my 1-1/4" sway bar on my 1968 Barracuda. The sway bar uses Heim joints for the endlinks (passenger side shown):

When I installed everything, I had the car on the ground. I set the endlinks so that I could move (rotate slightly) the Heim joints using my fingers. That means to me that at rest, the car does not have any (or very little) tension on the sway bar/end links/Heim joints.

1. Is that the correct way to do it? Or should the sway bar have tension on it at rest?

2. The sway bar endlinks required the Heim joint to be turned out (ie, more threads showing) more on the passenger's side than the driver's side. Maybe the bar was bent slightly, I didn't test that prior to installing. Regardless, I'm a little worried about the passenger side because there wasn't much thread to begin with (about 3/4" thread tops). I'm worried that it might not have enough thread and let-loose during spirited driving.

Any advice would be great and very appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

1. The low-tension should work out just fine.

2. Can you alter the other side shorter so that you can get more threads into the side that is extended out?

3. Did your end links come with jam nuts to put on the threads between the two Heims? If not, you'll want to add those, you'll flatten those threads and pull them apart sooner than later. Not immediately, but the bar will work those threads to failure.

I ended up snugging the body mounts of the sway bar (attach to the K-frame) first. Then, I modified the Heimed endlinks to reach the bar ends. Making the other side shorter won't help much; maybe a little.

Don't know, sway bar and endlinks came with the car. I will add jam nuts, and I might go with a longer male Heim joint too.

I would set ride height with end links unhooked with driver in car to level side to side, or put 175 lbs of something in the driver seat, then set the end links so there is no preload on either and tighten down.

Mopar to the bone!!!

I did set the ride height without the swaybar hooked up. I set the driver's side about 1/8" higher than the passenger side since I did not have 190lbs to put in the driver's seat.
