When I last rebuilt my 727 I fitted a TCI Trans Scat shift kit (came with the rebulid kit). I performed all mods as per the so called 'RACE' criteria. I chose this as I still wanted full automatic shifting for cruising etc, and manual when at the track. Of course this requires the throttle linkage to remain connected and I was just after opinions as to the correct method of adjustment remembering the manifold bracket had been modified for my Victor intake. At the last oportunity, I adjusted the linkages as per the factory workshop manual hoping to correct premature upshift i.e. trans shifts (D range) from 1 in to D all before 15 - 20 MPH and no kickdowm is evident at any speed. Once the transmission rod is adjusted with the 3/16 rod in the bellcrank...do I just keep adjusting the carburettor rod until the corect shift pattern is obtained or is there another way to correctly adjust the linkages? Please help with any opinions....may just have fit my full manual reverse pattern if all else fails! Thanks Macka

I've had someone hold the carb wide open while I was under the car and I held the kick down lever full rearward and then adjust to that point. Readjust if its too much throttle pressure(doesnt want to shift out)

thats what i do too except I just take the throttle spring off and put it on backwards to hold it wide open so i can do it myself. then I adjust down from there if it shifts too high

I had to fine tune mine. With the kickdown all the way back, it would kick down nicely but in D 1st and 2nd gear would not upshift on their own even by the time I hit 5500rpm. So then I adjusted backward until I was happy with it. If it's shifting 1-2-3 by ~25mph under light throttle that is normal.

Like Daytona said, with a shift kit it's possible that the trans won't upshift at WOT with the lever full back; IOW, the trans might need more rpm to upshift than the engine is capable of. Not uncommon.
First, be sure that the carb you are using (if aftermarket) has the correct Mopar throttle lever adapter, if not the linkage ratio will be wrong. Then keep lengthening the top rod until you get kickdown and the light throttle upshifts are to your liking.
