Does anybody know if they make a short header spark plug for the aluminum heads. I have a space problem on the driver side rear two plugs. I used to run Accell on my iron heads but they do not list one for the small block style plugs. If anybody knows of a part number for any brand of plug I could shur use the information.

If you want to know what I used, PM me.

NTOLERANCE - I think most people would welcome the knowledge of what you used. I would, please post it.

What I've often done for other applications is go to a plug vendors website and "pick" the specs I'd like for a plug ... heat range, reach, electrode type, insulator length, etc.. Most manufacturers make every combination of plug you can think of.

I'll post it, but only because you asked

I received this info years ago, and tried it in two mopar big blocks with oem cast iron heads. I havent tried them in aluminum heads, so youre going into uncharted ground there... I was talking to an old time engine builder named Don Dulmage. Google his name, he has a web site. He is retired now, but this is the info he sent me:

For more header room around your spark plugs on your BB Mopar we often use Autolite 2974. Heat range and tip is perfect for these engines and they are barley 1 1/2 " long. Don't ask what they are for, (Does the word lawnmower bear any
significance?) just use and enjoy! We have also used the Bosch although the
crossover number escapes me at the moment. Very good plugs though.

I didnt beleive it myself, but a friend of mine had some headders on a big block truck so we tried them, worked fine. Put them on another car with headders no problems. These werent race only vehicles, more street cars. I would run a whole set, not just a plug or two.

Give it a try.

Doc.

(ducking incase people throw useless chevy parts at me)

Thanks for the info! I'll keep it noted for when I get my MP/Eddy hybrid headed 440 together(if my headers give me fits).

Probably a small engine plug.

Problem is, cast iron heads and aluminum heads take distinctly different plug styles - the aluminum heads take the longer reach, smaller thread plug.

Check this out - this is what I was talking about in my earlier post:

Accel makes a "shorty plug" in two heat ranges. That's the good news. The bad is that they are only about 1/8" shorter so they don't help that much.

One number is a 416s. Check Accels web site, I think they are listed there. Even with the shorties my kid had to ding several tubes on his headers for his Eddy headed stroker motor.

E Brock heads with too big of header caused me to seek out a NGK plug that works well. Will have to pull a boot to get the number. 5/8 tools to change them and I have come up with a few trick ones from a few sources.
