I've been working on my Satellite for almost a year now tired . I will be painting it hopefully a week from Monday. I am going to paint the Roadrunner strobe stripes on the top and quarters. Can anyone give me the number of stripes and dimensions of them. Better yet, if anyone near the Hampton Roads area of VA has a 71 RR I'd love to come by and trace the stripes to have something to take to the sign shop so they can make cut-outs for masking the stripe color. From what I can tell by looking at pics of these cars, the pieces that are at the area where the roof and quarters blend will be the most involved to duplicate.
No more green and most likely no more Hooters girls (or me) on the hood!
Can anyone help me...please!

Why not just buy the stripe? it would probably be cheaper than laying out and masking then painting it on.

It's all in the details. I want to clear over the stripes, plus if anything ever happens I will be able to fix it just like the rest of the painted surfaces. I already have the color down for the stripe, just need to sand down, tape up, paint the rest of the car, then peel and clear. I have a color that I can't get in a decal too for the stripe.

The more I think about it, the more I think I'll just hand tape it all. I still would like some idea of the size of the factory stripes. As long as it looks good , it doesn't have to be exact since mine is only a Satellite.
It will be sometime next week before I start taping so if anyone can help me out please do even if it's been a few days. since this post started.

Are you just going to slap on the RR decal on the bottom of the stripe or do a stripe that looks better like the 72 style..

1972 Road Runner / GTX 440 4spd Dana 3.54 Just about to turn 26K original miles..

If you love someone set them free..
If they come back it means nobody else wanted them either..!!

No decals at all. I see in pictures that the 72 has more small stripes on the side and a solid piece across the top. I'm going to stay with the 71 style at least as far as the number of stripes on the quarters. The solid piece on the top would be so much easier to tape up but I do like the broken piece look. I'm not doing a restoration so as long as I have the basic look, I'm happy. If the 71 pieces have a more rounded shape I will most likely square them off like the 72.

You sound like you have your mind made up on painting the stripes. But I just wanted to comment for anyone else thinking about a custom color for their stripes. I'll bet Dale's Cuda Shop would make any of their Mopar stripe kits in whatever color you wanted. They have a wide selection of vinyl graphic colors to choose from. Just FYI

Nice car, BTW!

Yeah. The paint for the stripe color was put on last weekend. It's black with gold pearl. It's the same gold pearl in the home made gold custom color I'm using for the body. Most likely couldn't be duplicated in vinyl. Either way I do prefer paint. I'm not against painting over decals but it's not as repairable if there is an issue. I will use the factory "PLYMOUTH" round header panel decal since that would be very difficult to paint since it has small letters and two colors. I will clear over it.

It's time to go sand and sweat now! bawling

This is really crazy since ive been wanting to ask someone how many segments are in the stripe for a resto-mod project and the size will be different but I wanted the number of segments and planned to go silver and each one from the center drop a few drops of black to make it a shade darker as it goes down.

Although I have not hit the other mopar sites or even car domain ive spent a bit of time looking for a top pic to get the right number.

You would think it could be answered here.

I was almost able to tell from this pic from a search engine.

So can two people get some assistance here? Thanks.

I cant find the add pic button.....

Awesome! Can you give me the height, width, and gap between the stripes? A good close pic of the roof would be great since most pics I see are from the side. bow

You say it's all in the details and then say you don't care if it is the same just close etc... Then you even say to paint over stripes. That never makes sense to me since it always looks homemade and inaccurate. I get it's a Satellite but right is right and what your doing isn't going to look right no matter how you want to justify it to yourself. My Satellite was cloned years back by a different owner but he used correct stripes etc... The Matte Black stripe when hit with light has a Gold look to it.

Could you post how many segments are in the stripe. I cant say for others but ive cleared over factory mopar stripes and they do appear to have a painted on look and have went far past the life span of if they were not painted over.

In my situation I could not use a pre cut stripe or I would and simply clear over it. id like to have the high reflective stripes but I add a bright fine silver tone to the base mix and can get a good balance. Being a resto mod no matter what the quality or the money put in I know it will never have the value of a rare optioned org. resto car no matter how high the quality of work is unless you find the few select buyers that have the same tastes and finding that buyer more then not never happens.

Your RR looks very nice, but id have to ask did it come with gloss painted bumpers factory or chrome?

I have a car with the original 71 RR stripe and another with the 72 version. Which one do you want and I'll count & measure it for you.

Nope came with Chrome but the guy that cloned it was looking for the rubber bumper look. Factory rubber bumpers would be gloss never flat.

Also don't own it anymore so I can't give you specifics on the stripe size etc...

The car will be inaccurate as soon as any stripe, painted or decal goes on it. The detail is no tape line. This is a custom job that will mimic a Roadrunner. Nothing more. No need to get upset. It does amaze me how you can care so much for my car. I'm touched but I'm good with my plan and have no desire to change it.
If my car was a Roadrunner I might go back original, but the odds are nothing would change as far as my plan for the paint. The good thing is the car could still be made to look stock down the road, just won't be done by me.
I love your car. I love it any way that make you happy. If you don't love mine, I'll get over it!
