This is what is under the trunk opening lip under the weather stripping on my 68 dart. What are these markings? ( EMD41 L ) They don't match my VIN in any that I can see.

Thats the Shipping order number the only place it can be connected to the VIN is on the build sheet. On 68's the VIN was not stamped in the body only the SO number was.

That's just the stamping plant ID numbers for the "L"eft quarter panel. Keep looking there should be more. scope

iagree the Shipping Order number will be closer towards the rear of the car past the manufacturers number you show above. It will probably start with B8L then the 6 digit SO number. The B8L stands for: Hamtramck 1968 Dart.

Okay, now what? There are no other numbers stamped or otherwise on the drivers side lip. It appears the numbers on the drivers side are stamped on the passenger side lip as well.

The paint doesn't look thick enough in most places to have filled in any stampings without showing and I don't necessarily want to start digging.

There are a series of numbers or letters on the rear lip above the bumper but there are only 3 - 5.

The paint doesn't look thick enough in most places to have filled in any stampings.

This car was built in late 67 is it possible they just didn't put it there at that time?

I have had to scrape down to bare metal to find stampings before, you can't see or feel them from underneath. I have a 68 Dart GT that has no numbers on the core support at all and it was definitely original and I took it down to bare metal from stem to stern, so it is possible that there are no numbers. wave
