I have a 1968 dodge coronet with a non-ralley dash and have the thumb wheel dimmer switch for interior lights, my problem is, I was driving the other day and lost the dash lights, when i got home noticed that my tail lights also were not working.
I messed around with the dimmer switch turning it up and down and finally got the lights to work.

Why would my tail lights be tied in with the dash dimmer switch?

FYI: I did look at the fuse box and notice, someone has put some tin foil in the Dome light fuse holder. I have been driving the car for over 15years like this and no problems.

Any help would be appreciated.
Randy

I would replace that foil with correct fuse first. I would take a quick look at bulbs and sockets/grounds in trunk too. The switch may be fine as that's what sends power to the inst fuse. Did you notice if the parking lights in front bumper are working when headlight switch is in middle position?

I don't think there is any normal link between dash and tail lights. As mentioned were all the running lights out (front and rear) or just the tail lights. If all were out, may be the light switch itself.

Agree loose the tin foil ASAP.

On the dimmer, they can be problematical. On my '70E it was acting up... sometimes worked, sometimes not. When it didn't sometimes it would short and blow the fuse. I just soldered in a short jumper to bypass the dimmer so dash lights were always "full on" and no problems after that.

I will take the foil out and try to jump wire to bypass the dimmer swtich.

iagree and will add they get their power from the fuse box. I suspect a blown fuse of corroded fuse clips.
