I am working on a Duster I picked up last spring that has SS springs on it and an adjustable pinion snubber. While talking to a guy at the track and he told me not to use a snubber with the SS springs as it won`t let the springs work as they are supposed to -right or wrong?

the whole purpose of the snubber is to help stop the springs from wrapping. a good set of ss springs shouldn't have as much spring wrap as a stock set of springs. if the snubber is set at the wrong distance it could cause a traction issue. but set up correctly there shouldn't be any problems. lots of old stock racers have used them for years. experiment with it, you don't want it hammering the pad just slightly touching on launch

With the SS springs you can dump the snubber BUT you
will need a good adjustable shock to control the
lift of the body. Snubbers were used back in the
days of poor shocks

not really but ok , glad to see you are OK I know a stock racer who still runs one and does pretty dang good.. good shocks will help anything.

I ran one on my car. I had it touching the floor pan at rest. caused nothing but problems and eventually broke the tail housing. I diched it, copied 572 spring set up and the car launched much better. My advice is to pitch it. Clamping the springs had much more of effect than the snubber ever did.

thats because it's not supposed to be touching at rest.

on my car i use it when i'm on a good hooking track.my 60 fts are consistently .02 quicker.when i race on marginal tracks i take it off and i get a better hook.i use it as a tuning aid not a fix-all.

i use a pinion snubber with ss springs and have had O issues. when still the snubber is about 1/2-3/4 away from the floor. good for 1.48 60' outta my boat. tried back to back test with it on/off and the car would loose about .15 just on the 60' with it off and picked it right back up once i put it back on, everyones combo is different as i know mine def is, but it works so i leave it alone.

I actually had the exact opposite problem. The pinion snubber broke and I didn't know it. The car kept breaking tailshaft housings/loosing bushings/etc...

I found the broken snubber, put it back in, and never had another trans problem again.

I will admit that the car had a slightly short drive shaft, but basically the snubber prevented the axle from winding up, and pulling the driveshaft out. This was on an 11.80's 340 duster...

I'm wondering if you guys that have tried it (with
and without) have tried to adjust the shocks to
make up for it.... or was it just put it on or take
it off

I know it`s there for preventing axle wind up so even with the stiffer SS springs it could help.Sounds like it depends on the track, car, and supsension setup so I`ll probably leave it off to start and use it as an option for dialing in the suspension later.

I have tried running with and without the snubber on my car. I always 60ft's better with the snubber on. I have it set 3/4 inch from the floor. I take it off when driving on the street though, so it doesn't beat up the floorpan.
