Was 1968 the VIN or VON? I know a friend had a numbers matching 68 Coronet with a 383 and it was the VON and that matched the fender tag. Had to have the broadcast sheet to match the VON to the VIN. You may be thinking about the body stampings that were the SO number until 1969.

You may be thinking about the body stampings that were the SO number until 1969.
Which is a common reason for confusion, in 1968 the VIN sequence was on the engine and transmission but the Vehicle Order Number was stamped into the body. The later cars had the VIN Sequence in all locations.
