Short version of a long story... I had an oil leak in a new motor I'm breaking in. The source of the leak was discovered in a brand new Mopar distributor - see the attached pic. The oil came up the shaft and out the weep hole and made a mess. frown I'm chafed but this could have been worse - it could have easily been mistaken for an intake manifold front seal leak and I could have spent a lot time going down the wrong rabbit hole...

So I'm faced with getting a new distributor. I won't use another Mopar one so MSD is the current option. I'd like to keep my REV-N-ATOR ECU and not have to also spring for an MSD box. I've raced with REV-N-ATOR and been pleased with it. My question is, is anyone running an MSD distributor with a REV-N-ATOR (or a Mopar ECU for that matter) and if so, how is it working and what model is it? Are you happy with it? I should add this is for a gen II Hemi so any BB distributor should work as long as it clears the valve covers.

Thanks

Not sure about the msd but a firecore distributor is the way I would go.

I'm curious, why do you prefer the Firecore? I don't know much about them...

With that much oil going up the distributor shaft,,I would suspect excessive crank case pressure.

I can understand why you might suspect that but I don't think that is the case. I've not been making any long blasts with the motor at high RPMs (yet). There's no evidence of leaking oil anywhere else. The breathers are clear, the valve cover gaskets are not leaking, and the PCV valve is working properly. If the crankcase pressure was that high, I'd expect to see evidence of it in other places and I don't. In my old 493, after a run, when the crankcase pressure was at it's maximum, I'd see a little oil in the breather - I'm not seeing that here.

I did some research on this on and apparently this has been a common problem with recent Mopar distributors. I'm not the first person who's experienced this. Someone who's seen this before tipped me off that it might be the distributor and not the front of the intake. I'm glad he told me that and I checked before I needlessly removed the intake...

FireCore pro billet mechanical distributor is what I would use. There are many advantages vs MSD ; pricing, tunability, ease of installation etc....to name a few thumbs

PM sent wink
