Bought a AMD Challenger hood and need to drill the holes for the DODGE emblems. Does anybody have a diagram of where these go? Even a picture with a tape measure?

Dave, this has come up before and someone may have a template somewhere on the board. I could not find it. I did measure my hood and here are the measurements (you will have to open the attached pics).

Found it. It was on Cuda-Challenger.com
Don't know the guy, or if his contact info is still good.

It looks like you just need a Rally Hood for a 1970 Challenger and do not care for the OEM look to match the 1970 Challenger factory hood. There are many differences in a 1970 Hood than the rest of the years. Most are NOT seen when the hood is shut. The D.O.D.G.E. is the most noticable. Hood latching is different, Hing bolts, no cruch zones. If you do not get what you need in a template, I will take some measuresments off the extra 1970 Challenger Rally Hood that is hung on my wall in the garage when I get home on Monday if no one post measurements. Not sure if the AMD Challenger Hoods come predrilled for the engine name plate either. You might want to ask for those hole locations also.

Dave I have reread all the post on this subject and the link to other threads and sites and most of the information is there. The Blue hood link is a 1971-4 Hood and so are all the AMD Hoods, this is why I ask if this was a restoration type car or a go fast look good Challenger. It looks like to me that the D O D G E is in a straight line across the hood giving a different measurement for each letter from the front of the hood. The letters line up in the middle of the oval bracing cut outs on the bottom. I do not know if AMD has these cut outs on their reproduction hoods on the under hood bracing. I have a decent 1970 Challenger Hood if you have to have a 1970 with the holes in it for the DODGE. 1970 Hoods are a one year piece. Smaller hinge bolts, different latches than other years. This hood I have also has hood pin holes. If you need more measurements just PM me or post on this thread.

I have found that trying to measure and locate the holes on that curved surface creates more issues. Seeing as the letters are right in front of God and everybody, they need to be straight.

I made a fixture. For those who have never made a quick fixture/guide, try this:
Take a hood that has the holes already there and that the owner is OK with this process.
Use paste wax on the whole area by the holes.
Take some 10/32 screws, maybe 2" long from the backside. Place a thick spacer on the screw on the topside of the hood. (this will act as a drill bushing later) then use a washer and nut and tighten the spacers in place.
Then, mix up bondo and bondo around the spacers (don't cover the nut portion) and on the surface of the hood. Cover the whole area to capture the shape.
Use a small amount of fiberglass, or even burlap in the bondo to keep it from breaking in pieces.
Once it hardens, take off the nuts and remove the screws from the backside. Remove the whole bondo block.
This will then allow you to place that block on another hood and drill through the bushings/spacers into the new hood.

On a related topic, I have found that the replacement DODGE letters seem softer than the originals. This becomes more of an issue with the G, as it can twist at the top when adding the nut from the backside.

I bought my DODGE letters from Herbs. I had no problem installing them on my original 73 hood. The letters are NOT straight across. There is a curve to them but it isn't much. I'm the one who made the template that is floating around out there. I'd make another one but I really don't want to remove the letters to do it.
