cast crank and SIR rods = disaster at some point  the cost difference between going that route and forged crank and decent set of rods is not that much. then you would have something for the future if you decide to. Yes sir those are some junk parts listed there. I would run a stock 360 crank and stock rods before I ran SIR rods. we just tore down my sons 360 with a stock crank and it ran 10.50's-10.70's for 4 years and was still in one piece.

Why not just go a 4.25" crank and make easy work of the project?

I wouldn't use a cast crank of any make on a engine over 400hp. The cost difference is not much. Are you including STOCK 360 cranks in this statement? If so you better rethink that one.

No just the few questionable Chinese ones, my stock cast 360 crank has been going strong for 15 years now at 400hp and 6,500.

Scat rods, no SIR's
No issue with a scat 9000 cast crank.
Look at Brians RHS X heads. They have made 500hp on 400+" engines. Once you buy valve train and have the speedmasters ported, you'll be in the same price range is my guess.
Simple cam, Voodoo hydraulic 404-405 comparable. Use a set of stock 273 style rockers.
The rest that you have will get you close to the 500hp range. I agree my 360/408 Scat Cast Crank Scat Forged I-Beams and Icon Flat tops made 470 HP at the crank with worked over J-Heads....is still running strong today in a buddies car....he loves it and beats it to death in his Demon...lol Rickster

I am currently in the process of putting together all the parts to take my 1971 360 block and punch it out to 408ci for my '71 Duster. The goal with the car is to make 500hp. Here's what I'm looking at doing thus far, but I'd like to get some input on the best streetable/hydraulic cam for the build along with any mopar-centric head porters in SoCal.
408 stroker kit - 10.5:1 compression:
SCAT 9-360-4000-6123-2125 Cast Crankshaft
SCAT 2-ICR6123-2124-7/16 or Eagle SIR6123CB (I-Beam rods)
Icon Forged Pistons #IC744-030 (4.030")
Speedmaster 65cc Bare Aluminum Heads
Not sure on roller cam - need suggestions
Edelbrock Air Gap manifold
Holley 750 Double Pumper
Doug's SB Headers - Looking for something used
Milodon Road Race 7qt Pan
Suggestions for rockers?
My budget on this build is ~$4000 because I also need to sort out some suspension issues on the car, as well. If you have any suggestions on anything listed or any of these parts kicking around, please post here or PM me.

Obviously, the suspension issues is the wild card as far as $ is concerned. KB hyper pistons would be a better match to the rest of your rotating assembly and save you a few more $. Think they would live just fine on premium pump gas with that CR and aluminum heads. Carbs too small IMO. Maybe a 800 / 850 cfm. I have had real good luck with rockers from Hughes - (don't know who makes them for Hughes) and they have a large selection of Hydraulic cams to choose from.. Don't know anything about those heads, but it is always less expensive to by turn key verses bare, and at 500HP I'm sure you could by off the shelf complete heads that would work. Buy them complete, pocket port them yourself, and you should easily be able to make your goal. 500 HP is a nice safe realistic # for that block. I'm sure you realize that if you want more HP in the future you gotta start from scratch over again. Plenty of people on this sight that will remind you of that - and they got no problem at all spending you $. You now probably have enough $ left over to buy a complete after market K member.

Thanks for offering legitimately constructive feedback and insight on the topic at hand. I'm getting a super deal on the stroker kit and with the forged pistons only costing me an additional $150, I'll probably go that route. And the suspension issue has already been diagnosed and will run me ~$500, since I already have a bunch of hotchkis goodies. I plan on getting to 500HP and that's it on this engine. It will eventually go in my '40 pickup and I'll build a short stroke turbo sprint car small block for this car, but one step at a time. I'll check on the Hughes rockers and may just purchase the assembled heads. Thank you. Jon
