I am replacing the rusty single-piston calipers on the front of my '72 Dart (already converted to '73-up discs) with rebuilt ones. I've cleaned the slide rails, but should I lubricate them, and if so, with what?

Online searching gives a lot of info on slider pins, but not this particular type of sliding caliper. I'm concerned about the possibility of grease getting on the rotor/pads.

thanks
Charles

I like to clean gently with a flat file to get heavy rust and burrs off then apply a thin coat of grease.

I also would clean and very light coat of grease. To much just makes a mess and gathers dust and dirt. IMO

You wouldn't be using enough to contaminate the pads. Get some lube that is a dry type, not sure which but it is out there. You are wanting to avoid regular grease attracting debris in that V groove that could end up being worse than no lube.

I use a product called Sil-Glide. It's a silicone based lubricant specifically recommended for brake systems. You can get it from NAPA.

I use a dab of never-seize, much more heat resistant.

I clean them with a small wire wheel on my dremel and grease them lightly with caliper grease as stated above.
