I am looking at connection on the cables to my mancini mini starter. Studying the starter I am surprised that i don't recognize everything.

1.In the first picture that should be the Bat Terminal.

[img:center][/img]

2,In the second there is a black plug. Is this the solenoid terminal? I have never seen a plug like this on a starter? What type of connector is this for and is it expected to take it off and use the bolt?

[img:center][/img]

3. What is the brown tube? It looks like a drain tube but i can't imagine what that would be for.

That looks like a stock Dakota mini starter that Mopar makes and sells. You need the male pigtail that slides into the hole in the first picture, the cover on the second picture is there to keep the battery feed into the starter from arcing to the block, make sure and use it up twocentsThe main battery cable goes on the starter under the nut and washer nexts to the female joint for the start wire pigtail to slide into scope up IHTHs

I believe the black plug unbolts allowing you to use the studs. Two studs battery/solenoid

So the plug is for the solenoid and the bolt next to it is for the battery?

I am looking around online for where i could convert my solenoid cable to the male plug but so far no luck.

Take the starter off and take it to a radio Shack or some other electric supply store and buy the end that fits onto the male connector for the solenoid, be careful on bolting down the main + battery lead onto the stud on the starter, don't let it get close enough to the block to arc or vibrate and touch the block work Don't hook the battery up until your absolutely sure everything clears and will work properly scope Good luck, let us know how you do on this up

Mopar sells a pigtail to splice into the old harness. The part number is 5014098AD. Only problem is it lists at $33.00. Another option is to cut one off in a salvage yard.

Lots of places sell pigtails. NAPA for one, I think Rockauto does as well. But, they don't list this one.

It's a weird plug. I found several pictures online but they must have been the wrong pigtail. The part number is listed in several places as the correct one for the later Mopar starter. The plug was also used on Grand Cherokees, even the 4.0s, according to my research.

It's even available with a US Government NSN, and several Russian vendors will sell it to you as well.

This is one of the lowest US sellers:

My previous edition of this post was in error.

Why not remove the black connector and just bolt the battery & solenoid cables right up to it? The heavier current bolt is exposed anyway(in your pic), even with the black connector in place.

The part number 5014098AD is correct. Here's pics of one in a sealed package and after removal.

Nice touch on safety wiring those screws, but the safety wire is backwards. Ha

Well, you're right. Dozens of places list it as a companion piece to the later starter. Pictures I found must be wrong, although that never happens on the Internet, right?

This ought to do it:

Not my work. Plugs & wiring were there when I purchased the block. Saw no real need to change the one for it's sleight error of maybe a 1/8 turn if it loosened.

Do any of the black plastic connectors have a protective boot that covers the battery bolt & nut?

Ordered the part and got it all hooked up now. My question now is how the heck are you supposed to tighten the Bat cable nut? I got it hand tightened ok but couldn't fit a wrench or a socket on it to finish the job as the engine block blocks it.

This /\ need to get the wire on and tight before installing the starter all the way.

#3. So the "brown tube" is still a mystery? work

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

It is a drain tube/vent of some sort. Not all have that. Maybe certain starters are marine application. shruggy
