ok guys opinion time...
I have a 70 challenger ..very average car..was slant 6 3sp manual trans..

now its been tubbed, 4 link ,coil overs etc back halved with a alston chassis kit ...8@3/4 diff...unfinished project how I picked it up...

now a stupid question.....is this car able to made to handle , steer and perform like a nice road car?

or is it destined to be a drag car forever with this rear suspension set up ?

Well, that might be a complicated question and answer. In theory a four bar rear suspension works just fine for going around corners but it all depends on the details. You'll need some sort of panhard bar to keep things in place if the four link is all parrallel. Drag suspensions usually aren't designed to be dual purpose so you might be a little screwed from the get go.

If you put some decent sized tires up front with a large anti-roll bar then you should be able to move the weight transfer back towards the front. Drag cars are usually set up so that the rear has all of the traction. That works great for drag racing but not so good going around corners. The more you shift the traction to the front though the worse you'll do at the drag track.

Drag cars and road race cars do share a lot in common though. Lightweight, stiff chassis, CG towards middle of the car, etc. It is just the tuning on each end that throws a wrench into it.

Best setup for a car that goes fast at the drag strip and the road course is something like a Porsche 911. Rear engine, big rear tires, big brakes, stiff chassis, lightweight car, etc.

You could also convert it to a 3 link, add a watts link and have a pretty decent setup. (when allowed by class I have seen a bunch of Torana targa guys go that way from the factory triangulated 4 link...) Or leave it as is and add a limiter like Andy mentioned..either a pan hard or watts link (watts link moves in a parallel motion but panhard is easier to package.. but if the car has been backhalved you probably have plenty of room to work)

If you plan to register it...might be worth checking with an engineer as well about what has already been done to it, and what else can be done. (depending on what kind of rego you were going to go for)

How narrow are the rear frame rails?

Is the front suspension stock T bar type?

no rego required so its easy..

75 swinger...not sure will have to go measure it..
