is there a difference between a 1966 B-Body and a 1969 B-Body Dana would the 69 fit a 66 car? thanks!

It will bolt right up, perches are the same, but the 66/67 Dana is roughly 3/4" narrower, the 69 "may" fit with regular wheels & carefull choice of tire, but keep in mind the 66/67 cars have small wheel wells. May need a different wheel offset? Every bit of room helps, I'd look for a 66/67 Dana if I were looking.

You may want to consider getting a truck dana narrowed or get 1 made from someone like dr diff... be prepared to spend some good $ for an original, they aren't cheap!

They certainly weren't plentiful when they were new. In my neck of the woods I don't believe I ever saw a Dana under a car, in my formative years.

So, does that mean Dana's only appeared in 67? so what year did they start installing them on assembly line cars?

Typically they came in 426 0r 440 4-speed cars or as part of an axle package option or Track pack or Super Track Pack options. If you find any of these the price will probably exceed the cost of having a brand new dana60 built by Strange, Moser or Dr Diff. Cheapest option is a cut down truck Dana.

Here is the interchange list for car specific Danas. All will have 3" axle tubes and provisions for a pinion snubber.

I have done a couple of Dana 60 rears from truck rears. The only difference worth mentioning is the lack of the pinion snubber mount on the truck rear. That may have been some value when the only traction aid in common use was the Super Stock Springs and not worth paying a premium for an OEM housing

The truck Danas have very thick tube walls which should be welded to the cast steel centers with 7018 rod after deep cleaning the joint. As to the finished width of the rear, first assemble the wheels and tires you want to use and roll them under the vehicle less the axle. Center them in the wheel wells, measure the distance between the wheel mounting surfaces and subtract the thickness of brake drums or rotors. That will be the overall width of the rear, flange to flange. If you use leaf springs you will need to be careful with wheel back spacing to avoid interference, DAMHIK! I won't use Mopar ends on a custom rear again. Use the big Ford housing ends and you can use sealed bearings that you don't have to pack. Lots of sources for 35 spline axles including Dr. Diff. OEM axle shafts are weaker(fewer splines). Take the pieces to a 4x4 shop or someone with a jig and have it welded up straight.

In 1966 there were around 1500 4 speed Hemi cars produced. 1967 production numbers are a little elusive and there should be at least 750 4 speed Hemi B bodies with the RO & WO cars produced. 1967 Production numbers have not been correct for a long time. How many were put behind a 440 motor with a 4 speed and even if some do not think so they did put Danas behind a Hemi with an Automatic.

So certainly less than 20,000 for all the years put together. Considering that probably half of those cars were scrapped, that doesn't leave many original Danas in the world.

It makes much more sense to get one built exactly how you need it to be.

There are lots of Danas out there for sale. Price will vary per year. Around 10500 Hemi Cars built. Around half are 4 speed with a Dana. Almost every 1971 Hemi Cuda with an automatice came with a 410 Dana, 1970 Hemi E Body autos many have danas. How many 440-440-6 six cars came with a Dana in 1970 and 1971. All A12s came with a Dana. Take your time look around buy what fits in your car if you are not in any hurry. If you need it yesterday you will pay full price or have one built.

I'll keep you posted if I decide to let mine go, it's dated 3-24-67 from a 67' GTX. Are you looking for one that fits or correctly dated for your 66?
