Looking to replace the o-ring seal on my distributor. Got one from Oreily but it ain't even close. So, where can I get the right one? Any help would be appreciated.

Call O'reillys & others & you want an 1/8" O ring with an ID ~1&7/8"

Hopefully you saved the original O ring, if so take it to a local hydraulic shop and have them sell you two or three new ones of the proper size

Do you have a Prestolite dual point that the difference

I have the original but it's hard as a rock and split when I took it off. Trying to get this 340 sealed up as much as possible to get it back on the road after 25 years.

If you are in a rush you can use a flat gasket under the base (Ma did it both ways/switched at some point in time/not sure why/likely money/ convenience). You want one thin as a C hair as to not raise the dist/increase the tang slop in the tang/intergear interface. twisting the rotor back & forth slightly just not enough to get into the springs will tell you where you are at with that (with the O ring even). A 4 deg arc of play means the timing can vary 8 deg at the crank (spark scatter). Jerry will take care of ya & here's Jerrys spacers (3/16") installed and you can see that a thin gasket under the wide dist base will seal it up excellent

Okay, family and business things taken care of and now I can get back to the dart so riddle me this. I got the o-ring from Jerry, thanks. I also ordered one from Bill to get the combo for the distributor.

Both o-rings are not the same as the one I have. They are both larger in ID and don't fit snugly on the distributor and they are both smaller in their thickness.

Kinda of confused at this point.

the metal gasket definitely looks OE. I measured the housing groove at .113" for the top to bottom height and ~.078" for the depth and 2" for the housing OD so I'd say a 1/8" dia O ring with slightly more than 2" OD. EDIT you want it to stretch a bit so maybe slightly less than 2" OD setting loose on your table

Your original was round at one time,the current shape is from it conforming to the slot and becoming hard over time.The one Bill R sent is correct.

Unless the one Bill sent me can grow it isn't going to work on this distributor. Attached photos of the o-ring in place, very sloppy and the measurements of the grove on the distributor.

For sure that 3/32" one ain't gonna work/its the wrong one. someone locally (for you) oughta have one that would fit.

I have the proper O-Ring for that. It's included in all of our SB Intake Gasket Sets and our Accessories Kits.
