removed ralley cluster and lost power

Hello everyone,
I want to test signal going into tach but car won't start with cluster removed.
Can't car run with I/P removed?
I don't seem to have any power at all, although I have battery power at starter relay.

Welcome aboard! Oz has you covered. ALWAYS a good caveat to pull a batt cable off BEFORE you start up under there.

Welcome aboard! Oz has you covered. ALWAYS a good caveat to pull a batt cable off BEFORE you start up under there. I did, then reconnected to obtain tach signal. Seems lead changes from Gray/black in engine compartment to BLue and White red at I/P. I have (2) leads for each Ammeter post (total 4 leads to ammeter), is this correct? Just connect all (4) together? Thanks
