Or whatever the substance is anymore. Not sure if "leading" is EPA approved but whats its' replacement? Is anyone doing it? I have thought that IF I build an old style street rod{ever}, I'd like to smooth the seams. Is it easier to just use mig,tig or the body panel glue. I like learning to do new things. I need to learn to Tig aluminum but I'd like to learn the lost arts too..

Don't know what the "EPA" position is, but I know you can buy the stuff from various vendors. Got my first bit from Eastwood...looking for a more local supplier now. I haven't done alot of it, but it's been fun so far!

I have the eastwood kit and have used it a couple times. It's relatively easy to understand how to do it, but it takes some decent hand + eye coordination to be good at it especially on vertical surfaces. There is a fine line between the lead being warm enough to make it stick and so warm that it wants to run off the car.

I have seen the Eastwood kit. I figured that if and when the time came, I'd use that kit.. Nobody else has tried it..

Yes, I do and have for 25 years. But the lead I work with comes out of the end of my Sig Sauer! One squeeze at a time!

Doesn't it tend to make holes instead of filling them?

In my experience there's way less chance of pinholes and stuff with lead than there will ever be with plastic fillers...and less chance of moisture getting underneath and causing cracking, rust, etc.

Even if you lead a body seam you need to weld it or it will crack just as any filler would. Working lead takes practice like any skill. Done properly it will last a lifetime. Done poorly it is no better than plastic fillers.
