I have a gas pedal that is quite similar to the one in the picture below...

The problem I'm having is the pedal itself has to be so far off the floor at idle, my leg is literally suspended in the air and my knee is almost at dash height (slightly exaggerated)...

It looks like I need to move the pivot point of the arm downwards, closer to the pedal to still have enough travel to get the carburetor to go WOT.. but to do so, would require some custom fabrication and standing on my head to weld under the dash.. violin

So I guess I have a couple questions.. Does anyone have any suggestions on a quick and easy gas pedal install that has solid linkage... and whats your opinion on going with a Locar type pedal that bolts to the firewall and has a cable?

(BTW... I still hate the new forum board software)

I assume it works now but the pedal is just in the wrong location..
if so you can go about it a little differently.. move the lower
section up closer to the pivot... pull the pedal and cut the tube
below the pivot and shorten the tube and weld it back together.. set
it up so your foot is comfortable and make sure it will pull the
throttle enough... it should pull enough because your changing the
ratio to be more
EDIT
its a lot easier to weld it while on a bench

Right now, my foot can not sit on the floor due to height of the pedal, if I was to shorten it, it would only make matters worse.. But its something I didnt think about.. maybe I can build a platform for my foot to rest on... work

See if you can do 1 of 2 things... if you change the angle of the
lower section of the pedal will it get your foot closer to the floor..
or move the fire wall mounting point lower so your foot will rest
on the floor.. but if you lower the mount point the linkage might
be in the wrong location and hit stuff.. in that case you can lengthen
the upper side but that might make the ratio real fast... is the
hard linkage a must in your class.. if not then a cable throttle
will work
EDIT
Usualy with that style of pedal being so straight it moves your foot
way out away from the firewall and its up.. if you bend it so its
closer to the bottom your foot might work

Pulled my pedal out (stock) three times and cut/hacked/welded before I found a sweet spot between foot position and WOT. I also ended up cutting my brake pedal in half and welded a plate on the accell off to the left. Comfy as can be for me..... not pretty, but I haven't entered a car show yet!

I've done several cars that had trans tunnel fabrication. I just hate those tubular systems. Take a look at Dodge and Ford van pedals and brackets. Vans design has to be very creative. This is reflective in how the gas pedals are designed. Check out the 2000 + models.

Just installed a Lokar lakester raw pedal in my car. Had to build a Mont off the stick firewall to put the pedal where I wanted it.

Thanks for your input guys.. I've already had the pedal out of the car a few times, bending and cutting and welding... got the carb to go WOT, but the pedal position is crazee and needs to be addressed...

Is that a solid rod or cable linkage Leon?
