I had waited on the holley hydramat and then found their prices a bit crazy.
I had posted about this over the radium surge tanks a while back and decided for the money saved, I was willing to give it a try.

surgetank

320 with shipping and the nipple fittings. Which turned out to be banjo fittings, so I would not do that again. I would order regular fittings at 7 bucks each instead.

it takes a bosch 044 pump, and again trying to save a buck I went with the TRE pump instead.

pump

direct replacement and 100 bucks cheaper. 90 bucks with free shipping.

I have one of their other pumps, been running it a few years, so figure it was worth the risk on a non-oem pump.

I have to say first off, was no impressed with the surge tank shipping time. took 2 weeks from order to get it.
the TRE pump on the other hand was super fast. ordered Saturday, shipped monday and I got it just now.

there were some minor scratches inside the tube of the surge tank. Seemed to be below the o-ring so I let it go.

all said and done, new pump and surge tank still are around 400.
the cheapest radium is 460 for one that takes an internal pump. the external pump is around 380. and neither count the pump.

Assembly kind of sucks. wiring is integrated and worked nice. But to get the ends on, you basically have to thread it into the pump to pull the ends together.

you may have noticed in the picture, there is no protrutions. nothing to lock a vice on without messing up the finish.
you basically have to grab it and put a wrench on the end and hope you have good grip strength.

not real fond of that assembly method. Taking it apart also seems to be a pain. same issue, trying to hold it steady and wrench an end off. you cannot do it by hand at all.
Then since the ends are not synced, you have to figure out how to clock it so that the feed is at the bottom and, in my case, I wanted the hole for the return back to the tank on the other side of the surge tank so there was no chance for bubbles to accumulate near the inlet of the pump. so you get to figure out just how far you can tighten it to line up the holes like you want.

Haven't put it in the car yet. but plan on trying this weekend.

You did go for the lowest bidder. Still, you'd hope for a something with a little more thought put into it.

We could have whipped up something a bit more user friendly at my place.

Will be curious to see how it works out for you.

I'm going to try very hard to keep mine all within a "factory tank". Internal baffling, internal surge tank w/trap doors, Gen5 Camaro in-module return pump...at least that's what is planned for now.

for $405 I think this would be a cleaner solution

Aeromotive Phantom 200

I expect it to work fine. I had read reviews from other places saying they had no issues with it.
Just a few nit picks I guess on my part. I hope I don't have to take it apart and put it together too many times.

as for the aeromotive, I looked at that and the edelbrock solutions.
The cutting up my brand new tank with coating didn't seem like a good idea. I wanted something to where I didn't have to cut it up. Plus I don't think there is a good flat surface to mount it on without putting some sort of recess in it.

edelbrock would have been about the same price as the radium without pump and made of plastic instead. And it had limited mounting options.

I will say this gives me a lot of choices on the inlet and outlets over the radium and since I found I could not mount it in the engine compartment, it is better for the horizontal mounting I am going to do over the rear axle.

Well got it installed.
I think banjo fittings are the devil.
2 places to leak instead of 1.
Had to replace one set of crush washers while it was full.

Same problem trying to tighten individual fittings.
holding the body and it tries to clock the end. hold the end and you move another fitting.

I would not use their nipple fittings again if I did it over.
all in all since I would have had to buy a pump either way, I figured I saved 150 to 200 going this route.

might not have been worth it.

What is the surge tank used for?

instead of slicing up my brand new tank for baffels or a sump, I used a surge tank to prevent fuel starvation during acceleration or turns when I have less than half a tank.

unlike a carb that has a built in resevior, efi must have fuel at the pump or it drops pressure and stops firing enough fuel to keep the engine running.

Is the surge tank used as a reservior in between the tank and fuel pump? Does the fuel pump circulate fuel into the surge sump also? Thanks for the help, one day I will make and run a EFI system on one of my projects, some day soon probally wrench

There are 2 pumps in the system.
one pump goes from the tank to the surge tank.

one goes from the surge tank to the fuel rails/regulator.

my second one is inside the surge tank.

The return line from the regulator goes back into the surge tank and there is a return from the surge tank to the gas tank.

since this one had so many ports, I had the pump from the gas tank come in at the top above the inlet for the pump in the surge tank.

I had the tank level changed with some spacers so that the top of the tank was away from the pump inlet.
Both the return from the regulator and the return to the gas tank are both on the same side, as close as the canister would allow.

My thoughts were, an air coming in from the fuel tank pump would move to the other side of the surge tank. All "new" fuel would come in closest to the pick up for the internal pump.
flow/pressure from that side would keep the "old" fuel more towards the return side of the surge tank and help minimize any use of warmer fuel.

not sure it makes a difference, but I think it should.

both pumps are the same size, but since the internal one is pumping at pressure and the pump from the gas tank is basically free flowing, I figure it should win in the volume department.
I could have gone with a smaller pump, but already had it since I did it originally without the surge tank.
Would have saved another 50 bucks if I had built it like this to begin with.

if that is the price with a pump installed, that is very good.
the page is a little confusing. is there a port to return to the gas tank as well? even though it seems to say you don't need it.

what happens to the excess fuel? or are you running that at 8 psi or whatever the low pressure pump runs?

Price includes the pump.

RobbMc PowerSurge requires a 1/4" or larger return line from the PowerSurge back to the gas tank.

Pump is a high pressure pump. A return (bypass) regulator is required. Can be used with carbs or FI.

I recently bought a RobbMC Powersurge and the qaulity is very nice. I have the unit installed and should be able to have the car running sometime this week.
