pulled this alternator from a 78 400 truck motor. Want to know the amperage, I think its a 60amp but cant make out the numbers. looks like 3874__2-5

I think the numbers you want will be stamped on a flat area. I don't know if the casting numbers you have there will identify the amperage.

iagree The casting number was used with most units regardless of amp rating...the stamped number will identify the exact application.
