Anybody care to speak about Line size for Feed vs Return?

Carbureted 440 6bbl. I have a Magna Fuel 285 picking up dual lines from welded in lower sump though #8. #8 Up to Aeromotive Regulator with #6 return.

I cannot get the Fuel pressure below 12 at the regulator.
This is bench testing before car has started.

I have since heard that the return must be equal or bigger than the feed.

Thoughts....Help???

If the return is a restriction it will show up as pressure on the return side, put a gauge on it and that will answer your question.

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

Agree... that is a big pump and the return is probably restricting it so much it won't regulate.

I have similar line sizes on an EFI setup... it won't regulate below about 15 PSI but OK because normal pressure is 45 psi.

I guess the return would need to be at least as big as the supply in your setup.

One fix, besides a bigger return, may be a smaller pump.

Don't forget that, for a given diameter, the longer the line the more restrictive it is.

Good Stuff.... Drove me crazy cuz I spent a bunch on $$$ plumbing.

I will just attach an 8 or 10 to return and let in dump in a can and see what I get.
