Wow, it's been a while since I've been here...new look.

Anyway, my GTX has the original '70 727 which does not have the part throttle downshift so it stays in 3rd on almost every corner. I would like to have the part throttle downshift that was in '71 and up cars. I've heard that I can change it over without having to change the valve body but I could use some help. What is needed? Can someone like me (tranny ignorant) pull it off fairly easily? Pictures, videos, hand holding appreciated. smile

Installing the '71 and later PTK module is pretty much a straight bolt-in, remove the end plate and install the module and its end plate. One of the screws that holds the steel separator plate to the aluminum transfer plate will interfere with the installation of the PTK module, simply remove and discard the screw.
The limit valve won't be operative because the early VB's lack a sense port for it but the PTK will work fine.

The PTK from an earlier /6 trans can also be used (second pic)

Thanks for the response John, I was hoping you would chime in.

Few questions:

You said the limit valve wouldn't be operational but the PTK would, what does the limit valve do, will I be disabling something in the trans by doing this?

Do you have any preference of using the '71 up or the /6 piece?

And lastly, do I only need to remove the pan or does the valve body need to be removed too?

Thanks

The limit valve in the newer PTK module limits PTK to below 40 mph. Either one works but the later unit is easier to find.

The VB needs to be removed to perform the installation.
