What is the correct finish on the Hood safety latch and the Trunk lock and latch on a 70 340 Swinger?
Pictures would be great.
Thanks,
Jeff

These are from a different car but will show you the basic idea. The only guy I know who can do them like this is Stephan Fournier (stephan.fournier@videotron.ca).

Trunk Latch like this, bolts were painted body color (then removed and replaced when the latch was installed).

The catch and attaching bolts were painted body color but will show paint chips because it was adjusted after paint.

WOW Scott I would have never thought it was done like that!
Those A-Body's sure are weird no?

Is the catch on the lid fully painted and bolts too?

Very nice photos.

Would these finishes hold true or 69 A-bodies?

Yes - to clarify - All original 70-later A-body cars I've seen were this way

Just took pictures of an original paint 70 Swinger and they are the same as pictured.

My 69 340 swinger is somewhat of a survivor. Original paint in trunk. Trunk latch is natural as well as striker.

I had a 70 340 swinger and I'm remembering the trunk striker as painted body color.

For 69 Barracuda, the hood safety catch and hood latch were both black zinc as shown above, except the long handle of the hood latch on my car was black paint dipped.

The hood striker made of round bar and 2 bolts were painted body color because they were bolted to the hood when the hood was painted. The hood opening spring was phosphated.

The trunk latch and striker were clear zinc plated. Bolts for these were phosphated and unpainted.

Since we are one this subject I thought I could add to the post with another question and keep all this information together - so, a "mild" threadjack, maybe?

I am just about done with the cleaning (after complete removal) of the front suspension on my Dart. Some of the components were cleaned to the bare metal - it just washed off that way... What colors were used for:

UCA:
LCA:
Center link:
Strut bars from the LCA (not sure what to really call them):

On my '69 Swinger, those were all bare metal. Best to clean them well and soak in Evaporust. Once the rust is gone, clean and apply RPM.

Yes, that, plus record any inspection paint markings you find with good measurements and pictures. Lower control arms were raw steel but were then dipped in Cosmoline up to around the lower ball joint hole (couple inches short of the outside end) the outer end remained bare.
