My vacations from 1996-2002 consisted of Labor Day race at Mo-Kan Dragway, followed the next weekend by Monster Mopar Weekend at Gateway in St. Louis! 6 of the quickest and fastest 25 passes in my life were made there.
The most important part of a trip from Tulsa to St. Louis is to leave time for a stop in Springfield Mo. Home of the Bass Pro Shops headquarters, and Lambert's Café, "Home of the throwed rolls"
Cost is irrelevant, making memories is far more important.

I'm hoping HEMI Joel will have his Hot Rod ready for DW. If so I'm riding shotgun with him. Would like to meet up with any Moparts members on the down time.

Lamberts is awesome but the best is the original in Sikeston. A bowl of white beans and jowels with a side of greens and some cornbread is the bomb...Perfect meal for a road trip

Probably drive by Lamberts from Gateway to Memphis which is my guess for Day 2. Day 3 guess is Bowling Green and Day 4 LORP in INDY. Of course Day 5 back to gateway. These tracks could also happen in reverse order. That was the same tracks we ran in 2013, I hope thats not the route as I like hitting new tracks. I think indy or Joliet is day two but who knows.

One of the guys over on BS came up with this ... running the mileage its very close Gateway.. 275 to Indy..... 300 to Norwalk.. 320 to Joliet... 290 Back to gateway. thats ABOUT 1185 total
That would be cool! I could hit two new tracks. Because of dragweek my Barracuda has been driven in more states than any of my daily drivers have lol.

Don't understand why it's taking so long!

People have vacation time to get spoken for... You have no idea of the logistics it takes to put this thing together. You don't always go where you WANT to go, on the days you WANT to be there. You are really at the mercy of the tracks, because there is little to no money for them to make on this deal Monte

I think part of it is the DRAMA... we have/had guys waiting for at least a month.. if HRM was really on top of this they would have started last year to line up tracks.. all they had to do is come up with some sort of place to start/finish as in the east/west/north/south.... that gives the tracks time to prep people for the time ... being that its starting the 13th this year I think they ran into issues Its not a reality show I see no benefit to adding drama, I imagine they have had a hard time booking tracks. I am not sure every track is waving their hands saying ME ME ME like Tulsa does. Its the 13th this year because it has been the first full week AFTER labor day every year. Labor day is Monday the 7th, the 13th is the first full week after that.

Being a hard core track racer and getting to the track every weekend I have zero interest in this event but every year its the same story. My car isn't done yet, its to far away, no vacation time, my wife sprained her wrist, or the dogs not feeling well. This is it guys, your one event of the year. Sign-up and get your butt there instead of posting ALL year long about an event you never attend.

^^^^^^^ I agree. 2013, I followed the participants in a rental car. Had a great time meeting folks and watching from the side lines. 2014, couldn't get my project done in time, so I drove my daily driver Ram truck. Not competitive but I still had a blast. If I get in this year, I'm going for sure. 2nd track announced: http://www.hotrod.com/news/2015-hot-rod-drag-week-day-2-track-announcement/

Drag Week cars, by their very nature, lend themselves to other events quite well, so it's not like they sit in a corner covered up for the other 51 weeks of the year.
Ok, I'm lying, but as a sworn ambassador of Drag Week, sometimes I have to toe the company line...

you'd better hire a room full of folks with smart phones/laptops to "HIT" that button when the time comes Mr. P... you've built your ride for this... get it done! I have the wife... she and I will both be on it on multiple puters... she thinks she can have a quick way... she did this stuff for Chrysler so she knows her stuff

Jay, we will definitely have a seat for you, as I pointed out last year, we had 5 cars and 7 people, I'm sure the math won't be any better this time...

...and only about 3 of 'em were running AFTER the first day as well. Every year, we promise ourselves to be more prepared the following year. Come along Dustin...you may regret it, but you will never forget it!! This was the Gremlin's Venolia piston one pass after his 8.95 that ended last year's story: [img:center] [/img]

They didn't announce the tracks all at once, because they DON'T have all the tracks yet. It's really that simple. They decide where they want Drag Week and THEN they attempt to line up tracks to make the logistics work. Many tracks are either booked, too expensive, or are not interested.............Along that vein, I would be shocked if Norwalk was on the list. How would it POSSIBLY benefit that track to host a day on Drag Week.
MrP...........how you going to line up tracks a year in advance, before you even know what area of the country next years event will be in? If you DO show up, I will direct you over to Jenny and Michelle and YOU can be the one tell them they need to "get on top of this"...........I will have the paramedics on standby for you.........LOL!!!

That's the problem with the Baders, they just have no clue how to promote their race track! (okay, where's the sarcasm emoticon on this new fangled board...)

The track a day announement is done for one reason, its not drama, its website clicks. Us drag week guys will go back to hotrod.com about 5000 times today between all of us waiting for for day three to be announced, this will happen even though we know it probably won't be until this evening lol. That kind of traffic is good for hotrod. Its not drama its money. Yeah I know its the number of hits they get.. they use to announce all the tracks at one time until a couple of years ago

I HAD to lift it up for the BAD roads here in Mich... I touched my headers last year and it wasnt all that bad of a hole

Crossing my fingers for a track like Martin or Milan. I'd come out to spectate for sure. I could see Martin (or maybe Columbus?) for day 3, Joliet or GLD for day 4, and back to Gateway on day 5.
Or they could go south...

No Rocky mountain race week? No. I really really really wanted to do it this year, but it falls too close to another trip we are taking to Florida. My buddy Casey Cunningham (White '73 D100) is signed up though.

My Dad graduated high school in 1962, and had never been very far from NE Oklahoma up until that point. Then he got a job with a company that was tearing up old rail road tracks. On his first trip north he experienced his first look at big time drag racing. The Gebhart boys have heard the story over and over again about Art Arfons and the Green Monster at Great Lakes in Union Grove, Wisconsin.
It was also his first look at the 63 Max Wedge cars! If not for that fateful day, I might be Stage 1 Billy, or Buick Billy!!
I was really hoping for Joliet, and Earlville Iowa. I've been to Cordova twice, but never made a pass there, so that would work as well!

Cordova puts the mileage according to google maps at 980 something, a little low for drag week but that doesn't mean its not impossible. The Hot Rod routes will add some miles no doubt. Going to Muncie or Cedar Falls on the other hand would make the mileage 1100-1200 before Hot Rod puts their twist on the routes.
I'm glad that it looks like I will get to add two more new tracks to my list.

I know one thing.. I'm gonna have to get more in tune with my GPS.. it does a lot more than I'm use to... plus I need to run a second GPS.. doing DW with a buddy in the passenger seat makes life much easier but I'm not sure if I will have a passenger

I'm gonna say TriState in Earlville. That will be a long run back to Gateway... when I looked at that one I think it was 340 miles as the quick way on mapquest so if the DW crew ran back roads it would most likely be longer yet

I'm hoping HEMI Joel will have his Hot Rod ready for DW. If so I'm riding shotgun with him. Would like to meet up with any Moparts members on the down time.
Jeff Drag Week isn't in the cards for me but BIR certainly is so maybe see you guys there this summer...

We went over 400 on day 4 in 2012..... and yes, it sucked. That was a long and loud day with the rain delay and all. At one point on I-40 my passenger reached down to turn up the radio and it was already as high as it would go. Running between the construction barrier and semis at 3800-4000RPM so we wouldn't get run over made for a long day of ignoring the tach and temp gauge lol. Oh yeah and the route sheet was the worst I have had in the three years I have gone.

I am just now finishing up raising the front of the Rampage for better road clearance... Rumor has it it's so high there's a new entry in the gasser class! Naa... it was just so low before.. barely 3" and in a couple spots it wasnt 3"... now its just over 4".. was a bunch of work to move it 1.25" and I changed the front springs while I was at it.. it had 325# springs and I dropped to 275#.. even now they are a bit heavy but if they are like the first set it will settle some in a few weeks

I bought three sets of springs screwing around with the front of my car.... found some formula online where you could measure all the A arms etc, use your front weight to come up with a spring..... so after my head exploded I just ordered springs.
So from a "dragweek" point of view, worth the hassle of just adjusting the preload tighter to raise the front end, and then lower it for travel at the race portion? ....or am I creating too much work for this ordeal? You could crank up the bottom adjuster for the road but mine was out of spec... it was almost topped out due to too stiff of springs.. I had to move the upper mount down so the car would be higher but yet put the shaft in the proper place(design height).. I sure hope they are screwing with us on the day 5 location

looking at the prospective map it could be an interesting drive from Indy to the north side of Chicago.... No doubt.... I hate driving in the Chicago area.. the roads are ALWAYS under construction with no place to pull over if you were to break down(I'm talking about the X-ways)

I believe its back to Gateway I don't see how they could not end up at Gateway, too many logistics involved in getting tow vehicles and trailers moved from Gateway to another track. Gateway does have a regular Saturday evening program, hopefully that will not come into play this year. I am curious what route they will decide on from Cordova to Gateway, it has to pass fairly close to me. Route 67 would be the obvious choice, but I am not sure the powers that be will make it that easy. If they wanted to be sadistic, they could make you guys run down the Missouri side and through St. Louis! Danny

If they do Tri-State or Cedar Falls in Iowa I sure would like to meet a bunch of you guys! Ted I'm sure they have all the tracks announced already.. Cordova being the farthest west... how far is the eastern Iowa border from you... I'm staying in Clinton Iowa on the 16th and the track is just over the border

Seriously, I have never participated in drag week and have no idea how registration works? I take it that it is an online registration deal? Only so many cars per class? Looking to put my 09 R/T in the slow daily driver type class.

Moot point, just looked at 2015 rules and dont see the driver class. I watched some coverage last year and thought there was a daily driver class that they did some sort of bracket race for?

Looking to put my 09 R/T in the slow daily driver type class. It is a on line registration and you WILL need to be quick.. last year it filled up in 8 minutes.. that was with 350 entries which was 50 more than they wanted but they let it fly... there isnt any set number of cars per class, just the total entries.. you will need to have on hand things like the insurance policy number, vin number, plate number, drivers license number.. I believe these are correct... if you make it in you can most likely be allowed to change class at tech in on the 13th but you will put a class on the registration(on line).... so get your typing fingers prepped and ready

They changed the name to Street Eliminator and dropped the fast ET limit down to 10.00 which will make the class a little more tough. The top 32 will likely all be sub 11.50 and probably faster I bet. I am guessing this class will pull some of the competitors from the heads up classes that were to fast for DD but not competitive in the heads up portion. Mike may be right on the registration, its been different every year I have ran. Year two I got to sign up early because I ran the year before. Year three I couldn't get in early because I got 4th place not 3rd LOL. So no telling how they will do it this year.

Bad is correct... they changed the name of the DD class this year and lowered the ET min to 10.0 which I like and yes he is correct that this new class will pull some heads up guys into it.. I already know of a couple guys that will switch

id love to do this with my duster some day.. has been a dream of mine. I tried to do it last year but it was too far out west and to be honest I'm glad I didnt... my car wouldnt have made it with the problems I found... this year I should have plenty of testing on it and like I'm doing right now I'm correcting little things that I might have had a problem with
