I have a customer who just bought a motor from someone out of state.
well it never made one full run on the dyno and we had problems. I took it a part and had the walls sonic checked and was wondering what the standard is for min wall thickness. Thanks

For a performance motor I won't build anything that has less than 0.100 on the side walls. Prefer more than .200 on the thrust sides but you don't always get that lucky with Ma Mopar castings.

What bore size and which year block, B or RB also, is it? I like to see at least .160 or thicker on both the minor and major thrust sides and no thinner than .120 anywhere else like AndyF says I did a sonic test for a customer in SO CA back in 2001,2002 era on a 1976 400 block and it had .117 at the thinnest part of a rear, bellhuousing side, lower cylinder wall. That was before boring it, I advised him to find a better block but he built that one anyways, it made around 550 HP and went 145 MPH in a 2300 lb S/G Daytona

This thing is a .060 x 4.0 stroke 360. On the thrust sides it is .111-.175

I was hoping you would say the 5.7 Hemi block. I'm interested in seeing how thick they need to be after boring.

0.111 on a thrust side with a stroker crank (= more side loading) would put me off the block, unless there was so much machine work invested that it'd be cheaper to put in a couple sleeves.

0.150 on the thrust and 0.100 on the non-thrust would be my limits.

Those are my minimums too. I used to want more - but it was almost impossible to find a block with all the holes that good.

Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.
