FINALLY got the intake off my Dakota to install the Hughes kit. This is what I found......





Isn't all of this supposed to be dry?

The gasket for the plenum didn't look bad, but, the front manifold gasket looked bad.

That's common, those plenum gaskets are notorious for leaking.

Purple stuff didn't phase it, had to break out the oven cleaner, and even that took multiple hits.

The underside of the throttle body was coated too. TB cleaner spray did nothing. Ended up pulling all the sensors off the TB and hitting that with oven cleaner too.

The stuff was thick in spots. I would have preferred to hot tank the intake, but, no service like that close by. I did the best I could with what I had to work with.

I spent more time trying to get everything clean than I did tearing it down.

Carb cleaner?

What you're seeing could be reversion. My SHO motor's runners looked a lot like that after 124K miles, and it too is a dry intake.
