I am working with a 440 source RB 4.250 stroke crank and a set of Eagle 7.100 rods. The problem I am having is that the rods are two wide to fit the crank. The rods seem to be Mopar width and the crank pin is Chevrolet width. Has any one found this problem before?

I think they make a deal about it on their site like it is a good thing --perhaps for them if it makes you use their rods? I think you could work on the eagles and make it work--how much wider are they?

I have had to surface grind SB rods to fit the crank on one of my engines... I should have gone back to the crank company to have them do their job right.. he messed up and turned the crank to chevy diameter but didnt do the width right.. on my last engine I did the same thing but went back to him and he did the width.. on the SB I ground .013 off the inside of each rod to fit with clearance

They seem to be addressing the issue of Eagles on regular cranks having a mile of side room--supposed to be all kinds of oil Bogeymen bad things but I have NEVER seen any harm from tons more side room than we really need--"oh it bleeds off oil yadda yadda" I say maybe on yours but has never hurt any builds I had --Yes if you are taking a test >055 per pair is way wide but--does it hurt anything? I say no big deal but I do understand why they would want to correct this with the specs on their cranks and rods and make it more correct--I think yahoo Except--then when you go to use others rods you get --ehh..some grinding to do--all in the game of engine building me boys--these days with parts from all parts so to speak Nothing is a given or fits--Respect your engine builder--he is fighting this EVERY single day-- Never build an engine shop beside a liquor store--it is bad for the engine builders

Eagle rods are set up that way to fit Eagle cranks. Most any other aftermarket steel rod will fit the offshore cranks with the BBC journals. You could have them surface ground,or just get the right rods.

So that means that Eagle cranks use eagle rods. I see.

Too tight imo..........
He has .008 clearance now.. thats even tight to me (not the .001+ he shows)

.9935 X 2 = 1.987 2.006 - 1.987 = .0019 or .994 x 2 = 1.988 2.004 - 1.988 = .016 Unless I'm doing something wrong. And I did check it with a feeler gauge
