I am looking at upgrading the wheel/tire package on my 81 extended cab. This will be lowered. What works for you? 16,17,18,20 or a combination?

Here is a pic of my roller painted junk with junkyard $300 rim/tire combo. Couldnt find 4 of the 20" steelies that I wanted, so I got these.

That's a pretty impressive finish for a roller. I've seen a few that were. Well done. You may have over paid for the wheels. Just kidding.

I can't believe that these are the only trucks here running a larger wheel package than stock

Thanks for the compliment.

I really like the look of the Torque Thrust style wheels on the green truck. I've been trying to figure out a way to wrangle up some for my Sig car, probably in a 20". Stepsides are always cool.

A bit off topic but...
What's your bolt pattern?
I have a 76 3/4 ton and was wondering if there even is an alternative to the 8 lug, 16.5s it currently has.
If there is nothing, I will be looking for the largest tire I can find.
Is there a wider stock rim for these?
I'm liking the one pictured by blown340 above.

Mine is a half ton,so it's 4.5. My 3/4 ton has the 8 x 6.5. It has later model 16 inch dodge wheels on It.

BBoogie there are (were, anyways) many options for the eight lugs, at least in steel, all the way from 15" up in the aftermarket. Wheel choice would be sort of regulated by your intended use of the truck, to a degree.

As far as larger 16.5 wheels, there are 16.5x 9.75 factory style floating around, often found on the rear of camper specials. On a '74 W200 I had in a previous life I ran these all the way around, with a 12.00 tire. 16.5 are getting harder to find I hear, and would probably go to a 17.

I think this may be a byproduct of the diesel truck trend ... and then of course there are the later model factory wheels, which will need a spacer/adapter, because of the back spacing changes on newer stuff.

I recommend hub centric, it has worked flawlessly on mine. No wobbles, shakes, loose lugs, etc.

Here's a link to the spacers that I used. They are bolt centric, and I have had zero issues, wobbles, loosening etc...since I installed them.

I agree, I probably over thought things, I did ponder a long time before ordering parts.

But, in the long run, I thought that having all the loads/stress placed on what ever was holding the wheel on needed to be spread over more surface than the strength of five 1/2" wheel studs, so now the load/stress is spread on the piloted hub (like factory) and on the piloted hub hole in the factory wheel, which I had and wanted.

I understand that virtually ALL the aftermarket wheels sold are not piloted on the hub ... so, moot point, I guess.

Was just offering up another alternative. I do really like the look of your wheel/tire combo on your truck though. Nice choice.

Thanks much.
I'm wanting to stay with steel wheels and my center caps if I can.
No need for chrome on this one. Gonna have to start checking the bone yards this summer. Definitely gonna stay with a hub centric wheel. I occasionally haul some heavy loads. The list keeps getting longer.
Lets see... Hmmm, I've got most of the sheet metal, a 360 and 4 bbl, fresh exhaust pipes to put on. Now for an NV-4500, or an A833-od, or a 518 od, maybe even that bow tie conversion, Some trick treads, tunes yeah tunes, gettin' tired of the motor song.
What I want is something like a 17 or a 16 as I hear the 16.5's are getting scarce. Guess I should check with the tire store too and see for sure what he can get.
