Hey guys. Getting that time of year, where we start to see stolen trailer and car threads and rarely is anything ever found. Most options are $2-300, with live tracking via apps. Most don't require contracts so you can just buy for summer months too. This list isn't all inclusive. With OTR truck fleets anymore there are a lot of options. Cheap insurance.

While the initial hit would suck..... if my trailer got stolen it would literally save me thousands of dollars....

I did a lot of searching on Google. I see quite a few like the Dynatrac. Sounds like they're car guys. So that's what I plan on buying. Cheaper than possibly losing all my junk.

which system suits your needs on the Dynatrack? I just threw the TJ link up as I knew they had been in the business for a long time. Saw a post on YB where quite a few were using it.

So are the trackers installed in your car or in the trailer or both? Seems car is the biggest concern, but how well does it track then inside a car inside a trailer?

There won't be any issue picking up a receiver through say the trailer roof. No different than a cell phone really.

I think I'm going with the personal unit. With a little Velcro I could stick it anywhere and a charge lasts 10 days. I like the idea of throwing it in for the weekend or maybe between trailer/vehicles if needed.

That's what I did too. Google search popped up a couple threads on yellow bullet where guys liked them.

I've installed many units on bank financed semis for insurance companies, not the dynatrack though, and you can get creative where to hide some of this stuff where it can't be found. Just think of all the areas in an enclosed trailer.

My concern was picking up GPS thru a closed trailer, and thru a car body, both possibility metal enclosures, and the thinking GPS operates at much lower power levels then cell towers. I don't know, and am curious as to real world results.

I use those for my dogs they work great. You can set an area and if it leaves the area it texts you, emails you, etc and then you can use it to track it right on your phone it lays it right onto google maps.

You could attach or hide one just about anywhere on the trailer...

So,
I looked at the one from Amazon, and you need a pre-paid sim card. Can anyone explain what that means? Does it mean you need to have a phone service to on the tracker as well as your cell phone?

The SIM card is a tiny little disc that pushes in the unit. T mobile, att and a bunch of suppliers sell "unlocked" cards for like throw away cell phones. You can buy one of these cards much like a prepaid phone card, then renew as you need. Cards can be bought for $10 and plans 30-50 bucks.

How much data the unit uses is dependent on how frequently you have it report. So if you had it display location every 10sec it'll use a lot more data than if you did say daily or weekly.

Next time your at best buy or radio shack you can talk to them too. Best buy has a bunch of cards on their website. Hope that helps.
