I will say all the Max Wedge cars were street legal and could be tagged and driven off the dealer lot.
Not in CT brother, mandatory defrost/heat as long as I have been alive.
Isn't the first time Chrysler has run afoul of states laws. I think the Daytona's and Bird's had some issue in Maryland regarding bumpers and in CT they had to change the law so Vipers could be sold here.
Side exiting exhaust had been banned at some point.
I would generally agree though that the Max Wedge cars would generally be closer to a street car than a full race vehicle as most of the street characteristics are there. When you buy such a car you know what you are getting into though.
Hell, you could get a slant-6 dart with radio and heater delete. Guess that wasn't a street car either............damn, who knew............LOL!!!
Individual state laws don't matter. If the car is street legal as sold in ONE single state, then it's street legal. My 74 Challenger has had the smog stuff removed, other than that it's stone stock. Perfectly legal in my state, as we have no inspection. Other states, not so much............but that ain't my problem, because I live where I live and am not concerned with other states.
Somebody posted the pic of the dragster. Guy here in town has one. Put lights and turn signals on it. Tagged and insured. Just as easy to get a tag for that as a rail buggy with a VW motor here. Same thing, just longer...........LOL!!!! What about a T-bucket roadster? Plenty of those around

As long as its got a vin tag... a vin tag is required in ALL states... or you get a builders tag and in that cases its inspected and required to have everything

Gotta be a Democrat, just like Washington, there are no rules and they call it what they want.
And you must be a limp wristed guy.. only those type of people go on the offensive when they cant defend an argument..
You'll have to explain, I read that three times and still can't understand how a Democrate thinks.
How many times till you can spell "democrat" ? Hey! I'll have yu know I was class speeling bee champion 5 of the 10 years I went to school. If ya get from one town to the nex it's a street car.
Priceless!

To clarify the fuel thing: I would suggest that as long as your car will run on whats available, I think its within the definition. Its not a line at any compression or fuel type, its: "Can you fill up at the corner Esso Station?"

Unless of course you wanted to buy a Viper the first year in CT and it mattered very much.
In the north east if it is a true street car having a defroster *IS* a big deal. I tried driving without one and it was a stupid safety risk trying to drive with one hand while mopping the windshield with a towel in the other every minute or so.
That may be........but what does that have to do with a "street car" in Arizona or southern California where it rarely gets below 50.....nothing.
People relate what is and isn't to their OWN comfort level. Guys ride hardtail Harley's thousands of miles. Is that any LESS of a street bike than a Goldwing. NO, just depends on your level of tolerance for comfort. Something like a T-bucket, has no heat, no air, no wipers, no fenders and sometimes no windshield. Yet guys drive them cross country in the rain and cold. Not my idea of comfort either, but no less of a street car. Same goes for a big n little, spool equipped, alum interior, jungle gym cage, roller cammed, gas guzzling monster. Maybe not YOUR idea of comfort, but it only really matters to the guy willing to pilot it around. Like I said, some of the "requirements" some on here are doling out would exclude MANY regular production cars made before the 70s. Think model A Fords were a blast to drive back then.......doubtful.
As stated earlier..........seems some need to just "sack up" if you think you GOTTA HAVE air, power steering, power brakes, power windows, an I-phone dock, 15 cupholders and all the comfort of home to make it a real street car. What if we take a modern pro-stocker, drop in a stone stock LS and a 4L80E. That would be as dependable as your everyday truck, but guess it doesn't LOOK the part. Try to look outside YOUR OWN comfort zone.
On the fuel thing, pretty much ANYTHING, even a high compression race motor will run down the road just fine on pump swill, provided you lower the timing and keep your foot out of it. Think "Pump Gas Drags" that HotRod put on. All the fast ones were just race motors, tuned to run on pump gas. Not hard to do.

Look at the title of the thread, where does it state for a certain location?
Around here if you are actually into driving a car rather than a trailer queen or fair weather ride it is a requirement. I imagine trying to drive around Seattle might be a [Edited by Moparts - Family Friendly Site - Keep it clean] too with no defrosters or wipers.
You get bagged by the man without it you get ticketed and inspection which can open up another can of worms and God help you if there is an incident and you are blamed for having faulty or no equipment. Different location, different requirements.
In Seattle there are some that rely on Rain-X on street cars without wipers and do just fine. Not for a DAILY DRIVER but that's not what this thread is about.

Maybe we should classify our cars by percentages, my car is xx% street car . Hell, that wouldn't work either because there would be some guy say that my explanation of percentages were not the same as his so mine can't be a street car . Honestly, WHAT DOES IT MATTER? All that matters to me is that I'm out driving and enjoying my car, period! I don't give a rats a$$ what someone else thanks of it.

What if you have a brand preference?....ie; I prefer vp, and therefore stock some at home. And if I want to go far I bring some extra.?

I guess you can drag a trailer with a drum of fuel

Ha I was thinking more like some jerry cans. I consider street driving as just that. Not extended highway trips.
The guys on DW that were hauling fuel(for what ever reason) were hauling drums but we had to travel maybe 400 miles in a day and they had enough for a week

Most of the Drag Week guys drive on pump gas and carry fuel for the track. I know the guys from Canada with the Vette drive that car everywhere on pump swill and that is a 14.1 race motor. They put C-23 in it for the track. Think they brought 20 gallons of race fuel.
As for arguing the point about state laws........that ONLY matters if you live there. My car is legal in my state, that's all that counts. Not like another state is going to write me a ticket because I don't have a defroster when I drive through there, nor will my car have to pass a sniff test to be allowed in California if I choose to drive it there.
So gdonovan, are you telling that if I live in your state, I can't tag a sand rail type rig, or a T-bucket, an older classic, street rod, or some other such vehicle because it doesn't have a defroster..........ummm, OK.

I didnt go last year but the year before there was a couple of guys hauling at least 1 drum of fuel... you are correct.. all you have to do is pass what is legal in the state that the car is registered in.. any other state doesnt matter EDIT I dont have a defoster in my Rampage other than a portable unit that plugs into the cig lighter... I have a heater unit but I havent put it in yet
