Well, maybe you wouldn't, but you most certainly CAN, and 99% of the people who own 2wd cars DO. So your point, as far of a reach as it is, may be moot.

The point is simply you believe all street cars must be capable daily drivers. I don't agree. I have a truck for running to Lowes when I need to haul stuff. I have a commuter car to drive back and fourth to work. I have a nice car for fair weather trips and a hot rod that is street legal. They all have things they do best.

Sounds great... until you're 75 miles away from home and have no idea where to get 110 octane for you 12:1 race motor.

Pump 93 will work fine in it as long as you don't drive it hard.

Feel free to add or take away from the list...

MUST HAVE
license (check)
insurance (check)
DOT tires (check)
pump gas (check)
lights (check)
horns (check)
turn signal (check)
brake light (check)
VIN number (check)
mufflers (don't need mufflers for inspection)
rear view/side mirror (check)
bumpers (check)

CANT HAVE
slicks (check)
wheelie bars (why?)
parachute (why?)

I'm old school.. when I think of a street race, I think of hopping in my car (daily driver) and hitting the old airport road on Friday or Saturday night and you never ever saw wheelie bars or parachutes on any of the cars..

In fact the most prep I can remember was opening the caps on the exhaust system.. ala American Graffiti..

IMO (humble opinion) my list classifies a "Street Car".. to add wheelie bars or parachutes would be a racing type car that is driven on the street..

And most of those cars back then would get there butt handed to them by newer cars with just a few bolt ons.

Wheelie bars and parachutes on the street don't make a race car, any more than you driving your car on the track does.

Those are SAFETY items.

Uhmmmmmm...............why bumpers?
Some old cars the heater defroster was an option.
Some old cars didn't have the VIN on the dash, it was under the hood.
Carry on!!!

Mark

Mark.. on the vin tag I just said dash due to MOST
cars have it there... yes I know some are under the
hood on the firewall... my 38 Ply is that way.. I
was just referring to the legal place for a legal tag..
someone referred to wipers or something else... like
on DW we dont really have much of a choice sometimes..
if its starts raining you push on the best you can..
with the same ride... some might change tires(if
they have tires) for the rain.. no big deal but if
you dont are you gonna just pull over and stop until
the rain quits.. that might be a day... for others..
I could care less what you put in the tank.. just
as long as you can get it in MOST station... guys on
DW changed carb, backed off timing and took it easy
on the load just so they could run pump swill(93)..
others changed their fuel programs

I think your questions actually address the core of this debate; and can be answered as follows:

-If you cant drive your car in the rain, Or WOULDN'T because it's just too high strung for those conditions, then its not a street car.
-If you cant drive a few hundred miles in any direction and be assured you're going to find fuel to fill up on at any pump? Then its not a street car.

We had 7ft of snow a month ago in just a couple of days...Bet you couldn't get in your street car and drive a couple hundred miles, let alone out of the driveway, that is why I drive a big 4wd diesel all year....Stop being stubborn and stupid about it....You mentioned it has to have bumpers and all this other malarkey, and as the guy with the gasser pointed out, some didn't even have that back then...

I think Drag Week pretty well sorted out what a street car is, so if you don't want to race anything but a purple cam, that is fine there are classes for that...And on top of that, this is the RACE section if you want to be so stubborn!

I used to think I was pretty bad in the 80's with mine. 11.0, could drive Detroit to Columbus. Nothing special now a days.

Fast forward to today, my sons car. still streetable. Still nowhere close to the quickest, but respectable at 9.80 exactly the way it drives on the street.

Politics aside.........What argument...........there is NO argument in this thread.......only opinion and everybody has a different one. A street car means many different things to many different people. If it has a plate, is legal in your state and you are willing to put up with the aggravation of driving it........it's a street car. What somebody else thinks.........who cares.

You would never drive a high HP car in the rain so why the wipers? Pump gas, why does anyone care what kind of gas you are using in your ride? Pump E85? Pump 110 like they have at a nearby station?

I think your questions actually address the core of this debate; and can be answered as follows:

-If you cant drive your car in the rain, Or WOULDN'T because it's just too high strung for those conditions, then its not a street car.
-If you cant drive a few hundred miles in any direction and be assured you're going to find fuel to fill up on at any pump? Then its not a street car. On the west side of the country E-85 is pretty scarce. So, my opinion is that if your car is an E-85 only deal, then its not a street car. If it's flex fuel, and can run on either without swapping to a different carb, then okay.

It's not a matter of who cares what you run in the tank or whether you have wipers, its a matter of can you pull your car out of the garage and put it through normal street duty routines safely and legally.

My old man put 65,000 miles on this car in 4 years running nothing but E-85 in his 12.5 to 1 505 in RB motor

I thought it was a street car...
