I want to add a manuel oil pressure gauge but I want to leave the factory gauge hooked up. I know some have put one at the back of the motor in the other side from the factory hook up.I know people have done it, I just want to put a short pipe and mount it at the back of the intake. What size pipe and adap. do I need to do this. This may save me 20 trips to the store to get the right stuff. Thanks for any help on this.

1/8 NPT. The "Edelman" fittings cabinet at your parts house will have a triple female brass block & a short double male nipple & you're set. teflon tape or pipe dope for the threads. I would use a kit with a copper line & coil it one or two turns somewhere along the length between block and gauge if you can to help slightly with vibration work hardening but not a deal breaker

Can't you mount it on the other side of the block where the bigger hole is with some small pipe and fittings and just angle it to the side where you can see it? I've seen this before but don't know what size pipe and fittings to get

That would be easiest. There are two taps as mentioned on the BB. From memory, the OE gauge uses the smaller. The larger (usually plugged off) with suitable bushing would work fine for the aftermarket gauge.

Whichever you use make sure to clean the area thoroughly first as any crud could go in the oil gallery. I start with a toothbrush and mild solvent, then simple green and a pressure washer and finally brakeclean.

(1) use a double female "reducer bushing" 1/4-1/8 (NPT) along with (2) a 1/4 male nipple of the length you need (has male threads on each end) then the gauge brass fitting will screw into the 1/8 female end of the reducer bushing the same as if you installed it in the block port on the pass side. several bucks at your hardware/plumbing supply store for the (2) pieces needed

Right. All he needs is a 1/4 npt male 1/8 npt female bushing. The gauge kit 1/8 fitting will thread right in.

I've got it all gathered up except the fitting I need to go from the 1/8 pipe to the gauge. The gauge is a different size just a bit smaller than the pipe fittings. I'm going to NAPA today to see if they have any auto. type fittings, if they don't I may end up trying to tap out a pipe are fitting to work

the "kits" that come with an oil psi gauge (clear or copper tubing/several brass fittings/adapter fittings) will let you put together an assembly with a 1/8 NPT male brass fitting at the end which is what you need to either go directly to the block or to a female reducer bushing. Those kits are sold seperately from gauges (& are cheap) so you might see about picking one up at your parts store as it sounds like you are missing a brass adapter fitting. Definitely no drilling/tapping needed. EDIT I'll see if I can get a pic later of the specific brass piece you need

I got it with a bushing I found at NAPA, I had bought my pipe at ACE but I didn't have a fitting for the back of the gauge and they had what I needed. I took 6" of pipe and it put it all most to the top of the valve cover hard to see if you don't know it's there. My factory ralley gauge shows 30# less than the manuel gauge does so I don't think I'm going to worry about it any more just drive it. I just rebuilt my motor and I was worried about the pressure changing on it but it was just the gauge. Thanks for the help

Sounds like ya got it squared away & your pressure differential makes me think of another guy on here a day ago with a similar gauge issue. The brass fittings to the right are 1/8" NPT fittings from the "Edelman" cabinet at the parts house. The "T" & nipple under it at the far left are 3/8" NPT but it is all I had left to photograph & the double female bushing is 1/4" NPT.

I used all 1/8" T for it, the new factory ralley gauge I got from Classic Ind.it is one of the OER China junk parts. I had figured it was not right but I wanted to make sure. Thanks again for all the help

I just added an aftermarket oil gauge to my 440 this weekend,it was very simple,there was an extra plug on the back of the block where the factory sending unit is. it was a 30 dollar gauge and all the fittings and parts needed were included. I ran the line thru the ash tray and laid the gauge in there, so that when I close the ash tray door it still looks like a factory dash
