Just started a new project. A 56 Dodge P/U on an 87 Dakota chassis. The 86 had the six in it, I'm putting a 408 in it. I set the engine and trans in it today. The thans mount holes are about 4.5 inches to the rear of the mount holes on the bottom of the tail housing. It's clear that the chassis engine mount brackets need to be moved back 4 to 6 inches. My question for any of you guys that have done this is; Are the chassis engine mount brackets for the six mounted further forward on the chssis than the eight's brackets? Naturally before the final engine and trans mount location are determined the cab and fenders mount locations will be determined. Also has any one used Hooker full leangth headers, Hooker PN 5803-1 in a similar application?

We used spool engine mounts and made our own saddles out angle iron. As far as the headers I used a set of a body that I had laying around.

Thanks, the picture helps. That looks close the where I figured the engine should be located. I'll know better once I set the cab and fenders on it. I was thinking A body headers, then I found the Hookers that are made for the first gen Dakotas. I'll either move the existing saddles or make new ones out of angle iron. I'm using 95 Dakota mounts.

When I did my 48 Plymouth coupe, I moved the motor & trans back 7".

I believe the motor mount locations are in the same basic location for the v8 and the v6 on the Dakota frame. Gene

Gene, that's what I was thinking the saddles are the same but differnt mounts. When I did the 55 PU I moved the mounts back around six inches. But that truck only used the Dakota front clip. This one is using the complete frame. I'll get it figured out once I get the cab and fenders located on the frame.

Thanks those help. That is close to what I was thinking. The number one plug should be close to lining up on the shock. That is how I did the 5.7 in my 55.
