What is the sensor aimed at the flex plate on a '94 1/2 ton 4x4?

Thanks for the answer. I helped a friend pull a trans tonight. Does the crank sensor have a long life? That thing is in a tight spot and I'd hate to have to replace it with the trans back in. Do those sensors usually last the life of the vehicle?

Make sure that you don't bump the crank sensor on removal or installation of transmission. It doesn't take much of a bump to hurt it....

I had one last 280,000 mi on my 94 318. The only reason I had to replace it is I broke it while swapping to a built 5.9L. I don't think it's a common problem area. Now the crank sensor on a 4.0L Cherokee is a different story.
