The manual transmission cars (2009+) have VVT, but no MDS (block has the MDS ports plugged in the lifter valley).

There are differences between the pre-VVT and VVT blocks. One I'm pretty sure of is the VVT engines 1st cam bearing bore size has a larger diameter. Probably oil passage differences are well to feed the cam phaser. I think there are other differences as well.

I went through this a few years ago. All I could find was a replacement short block. At the time they were $1400-$1500. I searched high and low for a new bare block without vvt for about a year. No luck. I could get used ones in the $300-$600 range.

Maybe someone else has a different experience.

Good luck man.

I found several non VVT 5.7 blocks for about $400 a pop when I was into the gen3 Hemis. Most were std bore that only needed a hone. Let me know if you need one and I'll see what I can do.

I spotted this link about blocks and thought some would like the info. It might be worth thinking about a 6.1 new block if your project is like mine, delayed for a while.
