I'm building a 900-1,000hp NA and 500hp Nitrous B1 572 pump gas Drag Week motor for a buddy and thought you guys might enjoy seeing a set of very nice rods we ordered for it.

7.100 .990 pin 2.200 rod ARP 625 bolts

They are between 50-150 grams lighter than the other makers and as strong if not stronger than all of them. So we get a very nice strong steel rod with almost Aluminum rod weight.

They look wimpy next to the 7.100 Eagle rods I have but they use much better material, better strengthening processes and are cryogenic treated, stronger, much lighter and less bulky/cluby.

They have these rods in 2,500hp motor with great success.

I was sort of surprised they weren't I-beam but they said those would be 80+ grams heavier and don't need them for this application. They said that in longer rods I-beam can fold because they can't spread the load out enough.

Great small family style company to deal with, very friendly and very helpful. (thanks Monte Smith for turning me on to them!)

Here are the rods we looked, consider and compared before going with R&R.

Those do look light, especially at the small end.
I assume the big end width is 0.992"
What is the width at the small end? 1.062-1.125?

Big End width is 1.010, he didn't ask me about the small end width so I'm guess standard... so I'll have to check/measure that.

There is only .179 of material above the pin, including he bushing (had to have that info for Diamond custom piston order). I thought that was very thin too but they assured me it will be more than enough for 1,500hp.

They did say they have made this same rod for Muscle Motors with great success.

I don't know what is thick or not, but my Howard's steel rods are 0.225" above the pin.

I forget, but is 1.010" Mopar width instead of BB Chevy width?

Check them out before using. Ryan at Shadydell purchased a set for 501 cid small block.
The small ends were not machined straight.

Jim, I'll try to update the picture you created years ago. Can you add the info on your Howard rods?

I remember him telling me that the H-beams were .100 wide but I'll check.

My Howard's rods are "billet" I-beams, not H-beams like the rest. The pin end of mine are 1.061" which is narrower and lighter than the SCAT H-beams I had in my old 511 engine.

Eagle & R&R comparison 3

The H-Beam on the R&R is tapered getting smaller as it reaches the pin, the Eagle is the same size for the length of beam.

So that looks like one way they are reducing weight.
Am I reading the paper note correct?
The Eagle has 0.220" above the pin, and the R&R 0.190" (or are they 0.179")

So the R&R are still wider at the pin end, 1.130". That helps support the pin.

Yes, when I spoke to R&R about the material above the pin he told me .179 but when I measured I got .190 so maybe the difference is the pin bushing??? when I called him, I'm not sure if he looked on the drawing or went out to the shop and measured the actual rod and they may not have had the pin installed yet..

How do they compare to Manley H-beams?
