Do you have a Chrysler document that says that? If so, I would love to see it.

No documents, just anecdotes from Chrysler line workers who were there in the day. It is amazing to me that nobody I have talked to wants to be interviewed from what went on back in the day.

I just have mine in a full size white envelope and its fine...My sheet besides a few wrinkles looks like it did in 72...I took it to FedEx and they ran me several color copies for very little money and the colors are perfect like the original...I laminated a copy that I have in the car for shows... ..

Here is the copy...

I missed the musclecar hey days but I started working those assembly lines in 1978..We did produce service parts that went back ten years which was cool to see..

The 'thrown away' comment & variations of it surface every so often.

LA had what they called a 'No trash' policy, while some of the plants that produced the higher end cars like C-bodies & Imperials actually included a nicely folded broadcast sheet in with the owners manual packet in the glove box.

So from what I have seen overall, the toss them all out line of thinking is false when it comes to broadcast sheets.

Never seen that and parted over 1000 C Bodys.

And my own BCS collection....some are in plastic magazine sleeves, decades ago I stuck 100 or so on the sticky photo album pages...the ones with the clear plastic cover sheet ,and I have a box of probably 300 tattered ones stacked in a box in the basement.I think the ones on the photo album pages are stuck real good.

Laminating is bad. The plastic can bond to the paper & cause it to break down over time.

It also prevents the simple 'water test'.

Scan it & print a copy if you need one for reference.

Insert the original in an acid free archival page protector & store it in a safe place.

Did the same with mine and made high quality color photocopies for display and back up purposes. If put in an acid free protector and stored in a dark place at room temperature the BS should last for a lifetime or two.

Just my opinion...

laminating a broadcast sheet to preserve it is about like clearcoating an original paint car...you can still see what it looked like originally, but you have done something to permanently modify it

addict:to devote or surrender (oneself) to something habitually or obsessively ....hmmmm

My broadcast sheet was laminated when I bought the car in 2007. Is it possible to get it out of the lamination without screwing it up?

I don't believe so; I think once it's done it's done.

Note likely. If it was heat laminated the plastic can bond to the paper. Best left alone if already done.

If you're serious about preserving any paper products for the long term you have to deacdify the paper not just keep them in acid free sleeves. I've used universityproducts dot com for document preservation mostly vintage movie posters but also my own build sheets.

I keep mine in my fire safe in a folder. I am going to add the archival page protector on your advice. Good idea.

What is the "simple water test", if I may ask?

Oh yes, the Chivvy mentality is rampant even with Mopar owners, just like posi... The broadcast sheet I took out of my 69 GTS in 1978 has been in a picture album since then and still looks the same as it did when I put it there, I looked at it yesterday! I think as long as you keep it out of the light it will be fine.

The slip covers or plastic sheets are not waterproof so ensure where they are kept is high and dry and will never flood or be subjected to a sprinkler system.
It is very tough to avoid all perils.

Another thing you can do is scan them & save a scan off site. If there is a registry for your make & model, I am sure they would file the image for you, I do that for registry members.

You could also ask a pal or family member to save a backup.

That way if the original is ever lost or damaged at least the data is safe somewhere.

Be aware if you send a black & white low resolution copy, that is what you will get back. Take the time for a quality, color scan if it is important to you.

As far as the build sheet VS. broadcast sheet terminology goes, the sheets had different names at different times.

The top sheet in the image below is for a 1948 Dodge built at LA.

It will test the "AGE" of the paper to rule out reproductions.........
