I'm building an early dart, the frame rails are already tied together and a 12 point cage is installed. I had to fab a new radiator core support with 1x1 square tube to move the radiator 3" forward and 1" down. In doing that I had to cut out the lower radiator support that ties the front of the frame rails together. My question is, do I need to replace it? The car is caged with bars going to the front rails plus the K frame is rigidly bolted into place. What's your thoughts?

A bolted in structure for torsional rigidity ?
Not me , brother.
I think I'd like something solid running from rail to rail up front.
Motor plate ?

I would, motor plate and then another cross member.

I say yes. When I welded nose bars in on my 64 B-body it tweaked the rails enough That I had to use a port-a-power on them before I could bolt the K-frame back in. That tells me that even the stock rad support isn't strong enough.

The motor plate is a structural member , but my poorly expressed sentiment is that the stresses you would be putting on it without a rigid cross member in front of it would be tremendous.
When the idea is to stiffen up the chassis , removing key members is at a minimum counter productive.......and possibly dangerous.
Years back , there was a fellow with a newly finished Henry J at BIR......beautiful car.
He was expressing doubt about the rigidity of his radiator supports before his first lap in the car......a S/G ride.
I saw the puff of liquid at about 3/4 track before he got in the water and put the car on it's lid.
Moral of the story for me is if I have a doubt , I fix it.

Yep.. add the brace to the front... even with a motor
plate... it only makes the chassis more rigid which
is what you want
